The 8th Chengdu International Intangible Heritage Festival

On October 12, the 8th Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival opened. With the theme of Sharing Compliance Practice and Deepening Mutual Learning of Civilizations, the Festival will carry out a number of special festivals and activities to showcase the achievements of international intangible cultural heritage protection and share China's experience in compliance practice. Rao Quan, vice minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Shi Xiaolin, deputy secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Chengdu Municipal Committee, and Yang Xingping, vice governor of Sichuan Province, attended the opening ceremony and launched it together.

Rao Quan said in his speech that after 16 years of development and cultivation, the Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival has become a communication platform for countries around the world to show the practice of intangible cultural heritage protection, an academic highland to gather wisdom and development consensus, and a people's heart link to carry out friendly dialogue among civilizations. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, and the festival will focus on showcasing the international achievements and Chinese wisdom in the implementation of the Convention, sharing the diverse and colorful cultures of mankind, and demonstrating the long history and vigorous vitality of China's intangible cultural heritage. China's intangible cultural heritage has a long history, and it is necessary to strengthen protection and inheritance to promote the building of a modern civilization for the Chinese nation; to promote innovation and creativity to stimulate the vitality of the excellent traditional culture; and to deepen exchanges and mutual understanding to tell the story of China's excellent traditional culture.

Yang Xingping said in his speech that Sichuan is a large province of China's intangible heritage, with 8 UNESCO intangible heritage projects, 153 national, 1132 provincial and thousands of municipal and county level intangible heritage representative projects. Since the first intangible heritage festival held in 2007, Sichuan with this international cultural exchange platform, focus on promoting creative transformation of intangible heritage, innovative development, and achieved fruitful results, intangible heritage systematic protection level continues to improve, intangible heritage has become the construction of a strong cultural province, a strong tourism province, an important strategic resource. Welcome friends at home and abroad to come into Sichuan, exchange experience in the protection of intangible heritage, and share opportunities for cultural and tourism development.

On that day, Chinese and foreign guests watched the performance of “Tianfu Grand Parade”, visited the exhibition of intangible heritage handicrafts, international intangible heritage brand IP licensing exhibition, intangible heritage into modern life experience exhibition and other exhibitions.

This year's festival set up four plates of five continents intangible heritage, China's intangible heritage, Sichuan intangible heritage, cloud intangible heritage, including more than 30 distinctive exhibition and display activities. More than 900 intangible heritage projects from China and 47 countries (regions) around the world, more than 1,800 traditional craft inheritors, more than 3,000 traditional performers and more than 1,800 Chinese and foreign guests will participate. During the festival, the Chengdu Forum on Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Asia-Pacific Regional Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Capacity Building Teacher Training Course will also be held.
