On August 1, Mr. Hu Heping, Minister of Culture and Tourism met with H.E. Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS) in Beijing, and the two sides had in-depth discussions on jointly implementing the Global Civilization Initiative and further enhancing China-Arab practical cooperation in the field of humanities.

Mr.Hu Heping welcomed the delegation of the LAS Secretariat to visit China and asked H.E. Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh to convey his cordial greetings to H.E. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the LAS. He said that in March this year, General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward the Global Civilization Initiative, which was warmly welcomed by the international community, especially the Arab countries. The initiative has set the direction for future mutual understanding between Chinese and Arab civilizations as well as China-Arab cooperation in the field of humanities, and China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism is willing to work with the LAS Secretariat to promote the joint implementation of the Global Civilization Initiative and build a platform for China-Arab civilizational dialogue in the new era. The successful convening of the first China-Arab Summit has set clear requirements for China-Arab cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation. China hopes that the two sides can further consolidate and develop the mechanism of cultural cooperation and implement the humanities aspects of the "Eight Major Initiatives" of China-Arab practical cooperation.

H.E. Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh said that the Arab States highly appreciate the Global Civilization Initiative put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and the LAS Secretariat is willing to maintain close communication with the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism to explore the joint implementation of the Global Civilization Initiative within the framework of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. The Arab States are willing to carry out practical cooperation with China in the field of culture, constantly expand the areas of exchanges, promote people-to-people exchanges and carry forward the traditional friendship between the Arab States and China.

On the same day of the meeting, Mr. Lu Yingchuan, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, and H.E. Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China and the Secretariat of the League of Arab States on strengthening the mechanism of China-Arab cultural cooperation.
