Adapt Marxism to the Chinese context means that not only the essence of Marxism was reserved, but also it was added with Chinese characteristics and styles, which manifested cultural awareness, confidence and independence of the Chinese people.

Keeping fine traditional Chinese culture abreast of the times can release great vitality of the Chinese civilization and make it thrive in the new era and provide a more powerful spiritual impetus for great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts.

Situated at the foot of the Yanshan Mountains along the northern part of Beijing Central Axis, the magnificent China National Archives of Publications and Culture(CNAPC) Beijing Archive held the “Exhibition of Classic Publications Exhibition of Marxism Localization and Modernization” in Wenhan Ge and “Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Publications and Cultural Articles” in Wenhua Tang. The two exhibitions respectively aimed at guiding people to have a grasp of the truth of Marxism and the Chinese culture that has been passed down from thousands of years ago. The CNAPC, a symbolic program of passing down culture from generation to generation in a new era, displayed classics, manuscripts and archives of Marxism and key cultural relics and literature of Chinese civilization, practicing “Two Combinations” from a perspective of archives of publications and culture.

Members of CPC are determined believers and practitioners of Marxism as well as committed successors and promoters of fine traditional Chinese culture. At a symposium promoting cultural inheritance and development, General Secretary Xi Jinping illustrated profound meanings of “Two Combinations” and pointed out that ‘Two Combinations’ would create a new cultural organism that combines Marxism and fine traditional Chinese culture by adapting Marxism to Chinese contexts and keeping fine traditional Chinese in pace with the times. We should make this new cultural organism stands for the Chinese path to modernization in a cultural aspect. The fact that Marxism and fine traditional Chinese culture fit one another allows them to integrate deeply. This integration is more like a chemical reaction than a physical reaction and thus create a new cultural organism that is unified.

Marxism changed China in a profound way, and China helped to enrich connotations of Marxism at the same time. The theory of Marxism is a guidance for practices instead of a doctrine and it should be updated aligned with practices evolve. Only when Marxism is nationalized and localized will it be understood and memorized by the Chinese people. The history of CPC is a history of nationalizing and localizing Marxism continuously and a history of innovating and creating theories. Over the past century, our Party stay committed to liberalizing thoughts while seeking truth from facts and preserving traditions while keeping to integrity and innovation. Thus, we have brought Marxism up to different new levels, creating Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, Three Represents, Scientific Outlook on Development and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, which are all scientific theories that guided the development of the Party and the Chinese people. To adapt Marxism to Chinese context, we should not only adhere to fundamental principles of Marxism, but also develop it with Chinese characteristics and Chinese styles to display cultural awareness, confidence and self-reliance of the Chinese people.

It is Chinese civilization that passed down our national spirits from generation to generation. It not only needs inheritance, but updates and innovations that respond to changing times. It was obvious that Marxism played a significant role as a truth in invigorating Chinese civilization throughout the century, which helped it unleashed its strong spiritual power again. We should activate cultural genes of the Chinese people through the Chinese Dream, absorb the creative nature of fine traditional Chinese culture into core socialist values to create a social atmosphere where ethics, kindness and enterprise are emphasized and improve people’s awareness to build a Chinese national community with a shared future based on cultural identity. The CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has been promoting creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture for the purpose of aligning the most underlying cultural genes of the Chinese nation with modern culture and modern society. With all these efforts, we will modernize fine traditional Chinese culture, invigorate and prosper Chinese civilization in a new era and inject more powerful spiritual impetus for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts.

Taking an insight into Chinese path to modernization, we will find that it is deeply rooted in fine traditional Chinese culture, manifests the advanced nature of scientific socialism and draws on strengths from fine culture around the world. Pointing out the direction of human civilization progress, Chinese path to modernization displays a new form of human civilization that is totally different from western modernization. Marxism invigorated Chinese civilization that has a long history while Chinese civilization brought rich nutrients in Marxism’s development in China, which consequently create a new cultural organism that is unified. This new culture should become the cultural form of the Chinese path to modernization. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that the great social revolution of modern China, can not be achieved by replicating China’s tradition and culture, systems hypothesized by authors of Marxist classics or socialist and modern development practices by other countries. As long as we keep to Two Combinations, continuous innovation of theories through new practices and new practices guided by new theories, we can continue to diversify Chinese modern culture and step up efforts to develop modern civilization of the Chinese nation.

Creating new history is the best way to inherit history. Likewise, creating a new form of human civilization is the best way to show respect to it. Living in a country nurtured by fine traditional Chinese culture, we stick to scientific truth and human integrity, create new achievements in socialist culture based on the old ones so as to confidently write new chapters for nationalizing and localizing Marxism continuously.
