On September 22^nd of 2020, at the invitation, Qin Gang, foreign affairs minister, attended Malta’s National Day reception to mark the 56^th anniversary of the gaining of independence in Malta Embassy in China.

    In his speech, Qin Gang expressed his congratulation to Malta and reviewed the history. He said that China and Malta were distant countries with different national conditions, but our friendship remained fresh even after a long history. Since the start of this year, governments and people of the two countries had been helping each other to overcome difficulties. General secretary Xi Jinping said that human belonged to a community with shared destiny. Facing major test, the two nations showed respect, solidarity and friendship, and thusly there’s the foundation of mutual political trust and the prospect of cooperation. The January of the 2022 would witness the 50^th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Malta. With such opportunity, China was willing to work with Malta to jointly construct the “Belt and Road”, with the lead of which, the two countries could deepen communication and cooperation in multiple areas and create more practical results to benefit the countries and people.

    John Aquilina, Malta’s ambassador to China, praised Chinese government for it’s achievement to fight against the Covid-19, thanked China for it’s support to help Malta in the pandemic and congratulated China ahead of the 71^st anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. He also said that Malta was committed to expand it’s cooperation with countries in Asia, especially China, and was ready to play a more active role in regional and international affairs with principles of safety, sustainability and solidarity.
