On September 22^nd, 2020, Qin Gang, foreign affairs minister, was invited to the reception to mark the 30^th anniversary of German reunification in German embassy in China.

    In his speech, Qin Gang expressed his congratulation to the 30^th anniversary of German reunification and said that national reunification was a profound cause, a wish of all people and a tendency couldn’t be reversed. Currently, separatist forces in Taiwan had tendency to cause more troubles. Anti-China forces in the international society made up all kinds of lies to restrain China’s development, attempting to cause strife or even separation by using problems relating to Xinjiang and Hongkong. All of the above would never be tolerated by Chinese people. China had always been supporting Germans to pursue and realize national reunification and praising German government for it agreed with one-China policy. He hoped the German government could understand China’s effort to safeguard sovereignty, safety and territorial integrity. Qin Gang spoke highly of the cooperation between China and German to fight against the pandemic as well as of China-German and of China-Europe ties. He said that the relationship and practical cooperation weren’t stagnate during the pandemic, but had new development instead.

    Qin Gang said that German’s unification 30 years ago left us with an important historic lesson that countries should seek inclusive cooperation and common development, instead of cold war mentality and ideological opposition. Not long ago, president Xi Jinping, chancellor of Germany Angela Dorothea Merkel and two chairman from the European Union attended a video conference and reached important result and consensus which pointed a clear direction for cooperation between China and German as well as between China and Europe. China would like to work with German and Europe to improve mutual trust, deepen cooperation and deal with disagreements on the basis of mutual trust and win-win cooperation, so as to build a community for mankind with a shared future and to safeguard achievements of multilateralism and economic globalization.

    Clemens von Goetze, German ambassador to China said that the peaceful reunification of German benefited from the multilateral structure established after the war and a partnership with mutual trust. German government spoke highly of the fact that China and German supported each other in the pandemic and was willing to work with China to promote international cooperation to fight against the pandemic. The video conference mentioned above was a success. Important cooperative consensus in China-Europe Bilateral Investment Trade, climate change and other aspects were reached. German government attached great importance to it’s relationship with China and as a country with rotating EU presidency in the latter half of this year, German was willing to play an active role in the deepening and expansion of China-Europe Cooperation.
