On December 9th, the 9th Global Tourism Economy Forum was held in Macao, supported by departments including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, hosted by Department of Economy and Finance of Macao SAR Government and co-hosted by World Tourism Economic Research Center. Those attended the Forum and delivered speeches were He Houhua, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of the Wold Tourism Economic Forum, and Oyang Yu, Representative of the Chief Executives of the Macao SAR and Director of the Department of Social and Cultural Affairs. Key speeches through video were given by Gao Yunlong, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Hu Heping, cultural and tourism minister, tourism minister of Saudi Arabia, and Pololikashvili, secretary general of UNWTO.
Gao Yunlong said that UNWTO supported economic diversity and sustainable development. The theme of the forum in 2020 was “reshape world tourism and new economy” which would help for the confidence recovery of global tourism. China was willing to contribute more to the recovery and growth of world economy by sticking to open and inclusive ideology, innovation-driven development and sharing cooperation achievements.
Hu Heping said that Covid-19 was spreading, so world tourism was facing serious challenges. China had achieved important strategic achievements in the fighting against the pandemic and was the first economy to grow again. Global pandemic added uncertain and unstable factors to the world economy, but the overall tendency of openness and cooperation for every country remained the same. China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism would like to work with other tourism departments and ministries to deepen international tourism cooperation, optimize tourism business environment and improve tourism development quality, so as to create opportunities in an open environment and solve problems in cooperation, contributing to the high-quality development of world tourism.
Global Tourism Economy Forum was founded in 2012. It committed itself to the analysis of the economic development of world tourism, to coordinate with national development strategy and to promote communication and cooperation with other countries in terms of tourism, culture, economy and business. The theme of this forum was “solidarity and innovation: reshaping new world tourism economy”. It’s being held both online and offline. More than 30 government officials and representatives of enterprises and international tourism organizations from the mainland of China, Macao and other countries in the world. They came to discuss confidence recovery as well as new strategy and driving forces to reshape tourism. Officials from Gansu Province were invited, and a special section named “China’s story: Hubei Province” was set to support Hubei Province to recover after the pandemic
