On December 9th of 2020, Zheng Zeguang, vice foreign minister, attended on invitation the reception of Columbia embassy in China to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Columbia.
In his speech, Zeng Zeguang spoke highly of the historic development in the last 40 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship. He stressed that in the February 7th of this year, president Xi Jinping and president Ivan Duque Marquez sent congratulation to each other to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship. They agreed that this should be a new start to lead China-Columbia tie to a new historic stage, which provided a working direction for the teams of the two countries. Zheng Zeguang said that China had been constructing the new structure of a "dual circulation" development pattern with domestic economic cycle playing a leading role while international economic cycle remaining its extension and supplement. It would certainly expanded the space for China’s cooperation with countries in Latin America and area near Caribbean Sea, including Columbia. China was willing to work hand in hand with Columbia to implement important consensus reached by heads of countries; link strategies; expand mutual-beneficial cooperation including economy, trade and Covid-19 prevention and treatment; increase People-to-people communication; safeguard multilateralism and push the friendly cooperation of the two countries to the next stage.
Luis Diego Monsalve Hoyos, ambassador to China from Columbia, said in his speech that good development momentum had been maintained in the last 40 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Columbia. Columbia officials expressed their gratitude to China for it’s support and help to fight against the pandemic and their wish to have more cooperation with China in terms of economy, trade, tourism, culture, education, sports and other areas. Columbia was confident about the prospect of the diplomatic relationship.
