The Silk Road Journalists and Youth Tour of Sichuan kicks off

On November 27th, the Silk Road Journalists and Youth Tour of Sichuan commenced in Chengdu. This event aims to implement the strategy of“four directions to expand, and opening of the whole region proposed by the Sichuan provincial Party committee, tell Sichuan’s story well and spread its voices. Besides, the event will also help showcase Sichuan’s economic and social achievements since the founding of the New China 70 years ago, present a new image of Sichuan with beautiful scenery of culture and nature, and enable the rest of world to understand and fall in love with Sichuan. 

During the four-day event, a visiting group, which is comprised of more than 40 media members and Silk Road youth from the United Arab Emirates, Poland, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam, toured Chengdu, Meishan, Ya’an and Wenchuan in Sichuan. They had a close encounter with a charming Sichuan to push forward exchanges and connectivity among countries involved in the “Belt and Road”. 

Sichuan, as an important node province along with the Belt and Road and starting point of the ancient southwest Silk Road, serves as the convergence and transportation hub connecting central Asia, north Asia and Southeast Asia. In recent years, Sichuan has proactively been building itself as the highland of openness. So far, there are 352 Fortune Global 500 companies and 18 Consulate Generals in Chengdu. Moreover, Sichuan has established friendly partnership with over 288 cities to advance its exchanges with friendly cities and help renew cooperation with relevant provinces, states and counties in Kyrgyzstan, India, Zambia, Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay. Sichuan is striding forward on an open road.
During the event, the visiting group will view the Sichuan’s large-scale exhibition on the achievements of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in the past seven decades; engage in the culture of the Three Kingdoms period (220-280) in Wuhou Shrine Museum (to memorizes Liu Bei, the king of ancient state Shu, and his prime minister Zhuge Liang); have an understanding of smart technology in Tongwei Group, one of Top 500 Chinese Enterprises; tour Liujiang ancient town to taste Dongpo food and sample bamboo weaving in Meishan. They will also watch the Yakang expressway; interact with pandas in giant panda base; get to know the Spring Festival in Langzhong ancient town, one of four famous ancient towns in China, perceive great changes of Wenchuan after the earthquake on May 12th, 2018, observe its achievements of poverty alleviation and discover customs and culture within the Tibetan-regions. 

The China Radio International (CRI) Online will report this event through its media resources featuring multiple languages, digital terminals and platforms in order to spread a touching story of Sichuan and present its new image to the world. Besides, by virtue of their own media and social accounts, foreign journalists and Silk Road youth will also share their experiences to showcase such a fruitful and diverse Sichuan that is continuously developing and innovate itself.
