From October 10th to 11th, Zhang Xu, vice minister of Culture and Tourism, along with Chinese cultural delegation, attended the 4th meeting of Ministers of Culture held in Curitiba, Brazil. Attendees also include ministers or representatives of cultural departments from Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa.
The meeting adopted the theme of “the culture shapes a creative future”. Zhang Xu spoke highly of the achievements that BRICKS countries have made in culture, highlighting that all countries should unswervingly support the pluralism and advocate extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. Meanwhile, it is also expected to push forward practical cooperation in culture and promote the creative evolution and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture. It is encouraged to offer a broader platform and market to cultural cooperation through integrated development of “culture plus tourism”, thus benefiting more people. These initiatives have won positive responses among representatives of the BRICKS countries.
As organizer, Osmar Terra, Brazilian minister of Citizenship, highlighted the contribution of creative economy in comprehensive economic development, and advocated further cooperation in this field. Besides, the representatives of Russia, India and South Africa explained the importance of cultural cooperation from different aspects, and put forward practical suggestion on future cooperation.
The meeting reviewed major activities of four cultural and art institutions alliance in 2019 and evaluated the execution of Implementation of Action Plan (2017-2021) for.BRICS Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Culture. Besides, they launched discussion, shared successful experience and negotiated the future cooperation on creative economy. They signed Curitiba Declaration as a fruitful document whose content echoes three previous documents of the meeting and takes creative economy as a new growth point for future BRICKS cooperation.
