China Dongyang City Woodcarving and Bamboo-weaving Exhibition kicks off in Colombo

On August 12th, China Dongyang City Woodcarving and Bamboo-weaving Exhibition kicks off in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Dongyang woodcarving and bamboo-weaving are both Chinese national intangible cultural heritages. Dongyang woodcarving, featuring a major carving art of cameo, is regarded as “national treasury”. While the striking bamboo-weaving is one of traditional local artifacts of Dongyang in Zhejiang province. 
“It is the first time that the China Culture Center in Sri Lanka hold such event, aiming at enable local people to experience and have a better understanding of traditional Chinese techniques of carving and weaving as well as cultural elements from more aspects.” said Le Liwen, director of China Cultural Center in Sri Lanka. 
Liu Dong, head of cultural department in Chinese Embassy to Sri Lanka, said that both China and Sri Lanka attach much importance to the protection of cultural heritage. The exhibition will help people deepen their understanding of Chinese intangible cultural heritage projects as well as the efforts made by Chinese government in protection, inheritance and innovation of intangible cultural heritage. 
It is said that the event will last until 18th, August. Meanwhile, Huang Xiaoming, a Chinese master of art and craft, and Huang Xuemin, a craftsman of bamboo-weaving, will assume their missions as envoys of cultural exchange.
