On July 16th, Luo Shugang, minister of Culture and Tourism, met with a delegation from the Macao Special Administrative Region led by Pansy Ho Chiu-king, a standing member of the Beijing Political Consultative Conference and general secretary of the Global Tourism Economy Forum, and Yao Jian, deputy director of the central government's liaison office in Macao.

Luo Shugang introduced cultural and tourism development of the mainland. He said that the mainland and Macao have witnessed deepening exchanges and cooperation since Macao’s return to the motherland with good development momentum in politics, economy, culture and tourism. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland as well as the initial year of the implementation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will continue to shape Macao as a world tourism and leisure center, push ahead with its integration into the national development of culture and tourism and participate in international cultural and tourism exchanges. He hoped that further cultural and tourism cooperation between the mainland and Macao is being encouraged in strengthening academic exchanges, promoting cooperation in exhibition, fostering talent and reinforcing teenager exchanges, with the construction of Macao as a world tourism and leisure center and platform for business and trade services between China and Portuguese-speaking countries as a major goal.

Ho Chiu-king extended great thanks to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for its long-term support and help in promoting Macao’s cultural and tourism development as well as supporting Macao as a world tourism and leisure destination. She said the special administrative region would like to have deeper cooperation and exchanges with the mainland in tourism-related areas through the “Belt and Road” and Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area, thus promoting the integration of Macao into the general picture of national development.
