On July 16th, the “China-France Cultural Heritage Day 2019” event was held at the Champs-sur-Mame in Paris. During the event, the experts and guests showed a great interest to the introduction made by Chongqing delegation on the inscription of the Diaoyucheng site into World Cultural Heritage List. The scholars and experts invited were from French National Center for Monuments, International Council on Monuments and Sites, Planning Department for Ecology and Environment in the Paris Region as well as French Journalist Association of Heritage.

During the event, the Chongqing delegation made a introduction on the inscription of the Diaoyucheng site into World Cultural Heritage List. Diaoyucheng site, as one of the best-preserved ancient war sites within China, presents a good example of building a military defense system on hills in the world. Besides, it was also listed into China’s Preliminary List of World Cultural Heritage in 2012 as its inscription started in 2008.

Zhanghong, deputy-head of Hechuan District, pointed out that it is not only a significant step for the inscription of Diaoyucheng site into World Cultural Heritage List to attend the international forum on culture heritage and sites, but also a good opportunity to promote Chinese culture and history. The inscription of Diaoyucheng site will serve as a strong cultural support for Chongqing to win international popularity.

“A promising future is foreseen in cultural heritage cooperation in light of the rich experience of France in this area, which will facilitate China’s cultural heritage protection.” Patrick Dambron, chairman of Fance-China Culture and Art Association, said in a interview.

Centering around Diaoyucheng’s protection and inscription, the experts from both sides discussed professional issues, including the distribution of rights and responsibilities in cultural heritage area, role of heritage architecture, requirements of inscription, and relations between landscape heritage and natural heritage.
