Recently, the 2024 International Youth World Cultural Heritage Protection Dialogue Series Activities kicked off in Maileh City, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Focusing on world cultural and natural heritage protection, this event strengthened exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign youth culture and civilizations through dialogues and field visits, showed the charm of the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, a world cultural heritage, and the wisdom of local people and demonstrated the strength and responsibility of young people in inheriting and protecting world cultural heritage.
During the event, envoys, media, journalists and international youths from nearly 20 countries, including Russia, South Africa and Pakistan, went deep into the Honghe Hani Terraces to share technologies and experience in protection through face-to-face dialogues, forums and visits, deepen friendship through personal experience, and become a link between China and the world.
At the event, the organizers jointly unveiled the “International Youth Exchange Practice Base” in Honghe Prefecture, and created the “1+1+X” model of “Practice Base + Honghe Hani Terraces + Diversified Activity Content” by building a normalized and institutionalized open platform, so as to raise the awareness of young people from all over the world about the importance of the World Heritage Convention through various forms of cultural exchanges and mutual learning activities, and fully display the world cultural heritage, Chinese civilization hallmarks and cultural essence to the world.
The 3rd “Lovely China” International Short Video Contest was launched at the event, and the International Youth Red River Initiative for World Heritage Protection was released. There will also be an international youth “Online Evening Talk”, where international youth representatives and young experts and scholars from Honghe Prefecture will share cases and exchange discussions on topics such as ethnic music and intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance.
This is a cultural journey as well as a date with the youth themselves. With the changes of perspective, they touched the pulse of the history and culture of the Red River, and felt the real, clear and three-dimensional ecological landscape of the Red River, as well as the experience gained in the protection and development of the Red River. At the same time, with the help of international youth, more overseas friends will see, understand and fall in love with the Red River.
