In Malta, the Mediterranean Regional Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine has been a well-known medical and training institution for traditional Chinese medicine, and in 2008, the Center set up a Traditional Chinese Medicine Department at MaterDei, which was the first time that traditional Chinese medicine was introduced into the national hospitals of the European Union member states in the form of an independent department. Since 1993, the Chinese government has sent 19 batches of medical teams to Malta to work here, treating about 250,000 patients.

The WHO previously included traditional medicine originating from TCM in the International Classification of Diseases, and the value of TCM is increasingly recognized." Busuttil is promoting the development of Chinese medicine scientific research projects in Malta, hoping that the official launch of the project will promote cooperation in Chinese medicine between the two countries and bring more benefits to the local people.
