On the afternoon of November 10, the “Children Picture Books from China” Exhibition in Indonesia, sponsored by the Chinese-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center (hereinafter referred to as the “Language Cooperation Center”) and hosted by the Confucius Institute at University of Al Azhar Indonesia, was successfully launched at the Confucius Institute at University of Al Azhar Indonesia. Mr. Niu Haitao, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at University of Al Azhar Indonesia, Mr. Fei Li, Director of the Chinese Language Department and Director of the Confucius Institute in Indonesia, representatives of teachers and students from the Chinese Language Department, student representatives from the secondary schools under the Al Azhar Indonesia Foundation, and students from the Primary School No. 12, Cilandak, attended the event.

Niu Haitao said in his speech that the Language Cooperation Center carefully selected about 150 picture stories for this exhibition in Indonesia, hoping that the picture book exhibition for Indonesian primary and secondary schools and kindergartens would play a positive role in selecting Chinese teaching materials or teaching auxiliary materials in Indonesia in the future.

In his speech, Feili expressed his glad was to hold the Picture Book Exhibition in the Confucius Institute at University of Al Azhar Indonesia. By reading and telling stories in picture books from China, students in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Indonesia can understand the literate world of Chinese children, and shorten the distance between primary and secondary schools in China and Indonesia.

In the sharing session, Fei Li took the lead in sharing the picture book story of Little Tadpole Looking for Mummy in a vivid way, deeply attracting and touching the audience. Wan Yi, an intern at the Confucius Institute, shared the story of the picture book Magic Dress. Shirley and Mona, senior students majoring in Chinese literature at University of Al Azhar Indonesia, shared the story of the picture book “The Cat Who Likes to Use Tools and the Cat who doesn’t.” Muhama, a student from Cilandak Primary School, shared his experience and said that the content of Chinese picture books is very rich and attractive, and he was deeply moved. He also tells an Indonesian story.

Later in the free reading and communication of picture books, although many participants could not understand the Chinese characters on the picture books, they could also communicate by guessing.

At the end of the activity, the Confucius Institute students had a Chinese talent lesson for the primary school students——blow painting with straws.
