On October 26, the launching ceremony of the China Media Group’s Global Tour of “Journey through Civilizations” · Egypt Special Exhibition was held at the China Cultural Center in Cairo. Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and Director of China Media Group, delivered a video speech. More than 100 guests, including representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and heads of relevant institutions in the Egyptian cultural and media circles, attended the event.

Shen Haixiong said that in the long history, the Chinese civilization and the ancient Egyptian civilization had complemented each other and made indispensable contributions to human civilization. Nowadays, the world is undergoing unprecedented changed unseen in a century. Facing the question of the world, of history and of the times, Chinese people are striving to build modern civilization of Chinese nation and foster new progress in human civilization under the guidance of the blueprint in the Global Civilization Initiative put forward by President Xi. Adhering to the mission of the media, CMG will innovate ways of Chinese civilization transmission, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, promote dialogue between Chinese and Arab civilizations, and contribute wisdom and strength to promoting mutual understanding between the Chinese and Arab peoples and building of a China-Arab community with a shared future.

Zhang Tao, the charged affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, said that more than 2,000 years ago, the Silk Road created links between the two splendid civilizations. After one thousand years, the Belt and Road Initiative brought us two great countries together again. This exhibition not only vividly sheds light on the practical significance of the dialogue between the two ancient civilizations, but also fully reflects our hope of continuing the traditional friendship between the two countries and deepening the mutual learning of civilizations. It is hoped that people from all walks of life in China and Egypt will take this opportunity to further consolidate people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, catalyze new vitality of the ancient civilizations through exchanges, mutual learning and integration, and promote the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Egypt.

Ali Abdelhalim, director of the Egyptian Museum, said that both Egypt and China are great countries with a long history, splendid civilization and rich culture and art, which play significant roles in human society development. It is hoped that this exhibition of “Journey through Civilizations” in Egypt will further enhance the understanding and cognition of the two peoples on each other, consolidate the foundation of our friendship, and bring about new progress through pragmatic cooperation in various fields.

Nayirah Farouk, head of Egyptian State Television, said that although Egypt and China are located on different continents, the ancient Silk Road had linked the two ancient civilizations closely. Egypt was the first country in Arab and Africa to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China. In recent years, we have embraced closer practical cooperation in various fields. It is expected that Egyptian State Television and China Media Group will carry out more forms of media cooperation in the future, and contribute media power to closer cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

At the launch ceremony, the documentary “Treasures and Masks” co-produced by the China Media Group CGTN and Egyptian State Television was broadcast in Egypt. The film unveils the ancient history and splendid civilization of China and Egypt, allowing the audience to feel the inheritance of civilization from the long history and touch the pulse of civilization.

An interactive game area was also set up for guests to directly experience the unique charm of Liangzhu, Yin Ruins, Shimao, Sanxingdui Ruins and other cultural sites through immersive and digital innovation technology, and experience the long standing and profound Chinese civilization.

Global Tour of “Journey Through Civilizations” · Egypt Special Exhibition is jointly hosted by the Middle East Headquarters of the China Media Group and the Chinese Cultural Center in Egypt. The exhibition opened on October 26 and will last until November 2. Egyptian State Television Satellite Channel, Channel 2, Egyptian Nile TV, Egypt’s “elbalad.news” and other local mainstream media reported on the launch ceremony of this exhibition.
