On October 26, the “Beautiful Land of Chengdu in Poetic China” Art Exhibition kicked off in Tetouan, the white city in Morocco. This exhibition was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Morocco and Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcast-TV, and Tourism, and organized by the China Cultural Center in Rabat and the Moroccan Madick Fenedik Instant Action Association.
Mr. Li Changlin, Chinese Ambassador to Morocco, Mr. Damon, Vice Mayor of Tetouan, Mr. Jia Libin, Executive Director of China Cultural Center in Rabat, Mr. Nafis, Director of Tetouan Municipal Bureau of Culture, Mr. Saied, Chairman of Instant Action Association, Mr. Luo Anjing, Director of Creation Department of Chengdu Art Museum, professional painters Gu Zhiyong and Zhong Shimin, traveling painter in Morocco Zhang Ke, Moroccan oil painter Daho and many artists in Tetouan attended the opening ceremony. The number of attendees added up to more than 80.
The art exhibition was one of the events commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Moldova, and featured 27 outstanding works that had been exhibited in Paris and received high praise.
At the same time, works of full-time painters at Chengdu Art Museum were also displayed in the exhibition. The diverse works on display covered different styles and themes of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting, presenting the audience with a feast full of cultural heritage and artistic creativity.
At 7 p.m., the opening ceremony opened with the audience’s high expectations. In the welcome speech, Jia Libin said that fine art was not only a combination of color and paper, but also a dialogue between art and the world. As a cultural carrier that pushed the restrictions of language, works of fine art conveyed the beauty and infinite possibilities it carried to the audience. Holding the “Beautiful Land of Chengdu in Poetic China” Art Exhibition in Tetouan, where lay the National Academy of Fine Arts in Morocco, would provide a better space for artistic exchanges between artists of China and Morocco.
Li Changlin said in his speech that the cultural friendly exchanges between China and Morocco had a long history. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 65 years ago, the two sides have always respected each other, treated each other as equals and cooperated with sincerity. Through a series of cultural activities, the two peoples have further enhanced mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for better bilateral relations. Tetouan is a city of multicultural integration, and we look forward to more inspiration collision and exchanges between Chinese and Moroccan artists.
In his speech, Damon said that Tetouan is a multicultural city that integrates Andalusian, Arab and Berber cultures, and has profound fine arts soil. However, in the past, there have been few exchanges with China in this field. Therefore, he hoped to further strengthen the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and deepen the friendship between the two peoples.
Director of Tetouan Municipal Bureau of Culture Nafis expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Embassy and Cultural Center for choosing Tetouan as the venue for the events on the 65th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between China and Morocco. Tetouan was a city of art. He looked forward to strengthening cooperation with Rabat Chinese Cultural Center and inviting more Chinese artists in music, drama, photography, fine arts and other fields to Tetouan for cultural and artistic exchanges.
Luo Anjing, Director of Creation Department of Chengdu Art Museum, expressed her gratitude to Saied, Chairman of Instant Action Association, who invited the painters to Morocco for the exhibition. She said that the beautiful scenery and human history of this land of abundance are presented here in the form of Chinese calligraphy and painting, which reflects the poetic features of Sichuan and the comfort of living in Chengdu, hoping to enhance the cultural and artistic exchanges and collisions between China and Morocco, Tetouan and Chengdu.
Afterwards, Gu Zhiyong and Zhong Shimin, full-time painters at Chengdu Art Museum, Zhang Ke, a professional painter from Morocco, and Daho, a professional painter from Morocco, exchanged their views. Art lovers there also actively joined the communications, which attracted enthusiastic onlookers. Subsequently, Chengdu Art Museum presented two Chinese paintings to the Tetouan government and the Instant Action Association, and Moroccan painter Daho presented works to the Chinese Embassy in Morocco. In addition, Chinese painters also drew fans and wrote the Chinese character “fu” on the spot, and gave them to the guests present at the event as a gift.
Subsequently, Li Changlin, Damon and Nafis cut the ribbon for the “Beautiful Land of Chengdu in Poetic China” Art Exhibition. During the exhibition, Zhong Shimin, a full-time painter at Chengdu Art Museum, explained the exhibitions for the guests. Traditional Chinese painting techniques and common themes are introduced in detail, and the creative inspirations and skills of the painters as well as the natural and cultural landscape of Chengdu presented in the paintings are shared.
On the opening night, the Moroccan traditional folk orchestra also presented a wonderful folk music performance, which rose the atmosphere of the opening ceremony to a climax. The success of the art show injected new vitality into the cultural exchanges between China and Morocco. The exhibition will remain open until early November, enabling more Moroccans to appreciate and experience Chinese culture.
