On September 15th, Du Jiang, member of the Leading Party Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, met with Greek Deputy Minister of Culture Christos Dimas and his delegation in Beijing.
Du Jiang extended cordial welcome to Dimas for his visit. Du mentioned that President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Civilization Initiative this March, emphasizing that it was the shared aspiration of China and Greek, two of the world’s ancient civilizations, to engage in deeper exchanges and dialogues and create a model of exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. From 2021 to 2023, under the framework of the Year of Culture and Tourism between China and Greece, the two countries have jointly held a series of wonderful projects, which has greatly enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. Du Jiang expressed the hope that the two sides will embrace cooperation to continuously promote the dialogue between China and Greece with platforms such as the Ancient Civilizations Forum, Liangzhu Forum and Nishan Forum on World Civilizations. China is willing to support the development of the Center of Chinese and Greek Ancient Civilizations and propel exchanges and cooperation between museums in these two countries.
Dimas congratulated the successful conclusion of the 2023 Beijing Culture Forum and particularly commended the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. He said that Greece and China respectively represented the Western and Eastern civilizations and had made vital contributions to the progress of human civilization. Greece put a high value on carrying out cultural exchanges and dialogues with China. The Greek Ministry of Culture was ready to make joint efforts with the China to strengthen cooperation in cultural institutions and museums, exchange of cultural relic protection technologies, and the creation of new experiences of smart cultural and tourism services.
