“Tea for Harmony Sharing of Intangible Cultural Heritage” Theme Event in 2023

In order to deeply implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on the protection of intangible cultural heritage and the spirit of the letter to the first “International Tea Day”, from May 19 to 22, the main venue of the theme event “Tea for Harmony Sharing Intangible Heritage” organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Fujian Provincial People's Government, Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Fuzhou Municipal People's Government was held in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. Rao Quan, member of the party group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Vice Minister, Lin Baojin, member of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee, and Lin Wenbin, Vice Governor of Fujian Province, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches, and the representative of the UNESCO Beijing Office, Mr. Xia Zeihan, delivered a video speech.

The main event included the opening ceremony, exhibition and exchange activities, theme forums and so on. At the opening ceremony, a certification ceremony was held for the “Chinese Traditional Tea-making Techniques and Related Customs”, an item inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The exhibition and exchange activities organized 44 relevant national intangible cultural heritage representative project inheritors from the tea history, tea essence, tea affairs, tea stories, tea technology, tea tools and other different perspectives to display tea culture; the organization of tea-related intangible cultural heritage workshops and old intangible enterprises to participate in the exhibition and sale; the organization of young people to carry out tea-related study and experience activities. The theme forum set up creative transformation and innovative development as the orientation, focusing on the protection, inheritance and innovation development trend of traditional Chinese tea-making techniques and related customs, inviting representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, project protection units and intangible heritage workshops, experts and scholars in related fields to carry out keynote speeches and dialogues and exchanges around the theme to gather consensus from all sides and form academic leadership. In addition to the main venue activities, during the International Tea Day, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism also synchronized organizations around the country relying on tea-related intangible heritage projects, in tea gardens, tea factories, and related intangible heritage experience facilities and other venues, more than 130 intangible heritage publicity and exhibition activities, a comprehensive vivid presentation of recent years, the protection and inheritance of tea culture and the important results of excellent practice cases.

The relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and units directly under them, the relevant 15 provincial, regional and municipal departments (bureaus) of culture and tourism, and representatives of 44 national representative intangible heritage project protection units participated in the main venue activities.
