Meeting of Ministers of Culture in Cuba

On May 4, the “77 and China” Culture Ministers' Meeting, organized by the Cuban Ministry of Culture, was held in Havana, Cuba, in a combination of online and offline modes, with a video message delivered by Li Qun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and Director General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of the People's Republic of China. Cuban President Diaz-Canel, Prime Minister Marrero and representatives of 75 countries attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Alonso, Minister of Culture of Cuba.
  Li Qun began his speech by congratulating Cuba on assuming the presidency of the Group of 77 for the first time and on the success of the meeting. Li Qun pointed out that the tolerance and coexistence of different civilizations and their exchanges and mutual understanding play an irreplaceable role in promoting the modernization process of human society and the prosperity of the world's civilization. The Global Civilization Initiative recently put forward by President Xi Jinping advocates respecting the diversity of world civilizations, promoting the common values of all mankind, attaching importance to the inheritance and innovation of civilizations, and strengthening international humanistic exchanges and cooperation, which is another important public product provided by China to the international community in the new era after the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative.
  Li Qun said that China will always be a staunch supporter of the G77 and a fellow traveler, and will use pragmatic cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation to promote civilizational exchanges and mutual understanding and help the sustainable development of human society. China is willing to “G77 and China” framework, with member states to explore culture, cultural relics, tourism and other areas of “South-South cooperation” path, to jointly address the risks and challenges, to help countries to strengthen understanding and identity, to promote the connection of people's hearts and minds, to promote the building of a community of human destiny.
  The theme of this session is “Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development”, which is aimed at exploring ways to further strengthen mutual cooperation among the members of the Mechanism and to give new impetus to cultural recovery and cooperation among countries in the aftermath of the epidemic. After the meeting, the countries jointly issued the Declaration of the Meeting of Ministers of Culture of the G77 and China.
