China and Pakistan are ancient civilizations on the Silk Road, with a long history of cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries. Gandhara was a major transportation route on the ancient Silk Road, a product of the collision and fusion of diverse civilizations such as Greece, Persia and India. The art of Gandhara has been revitalized and creative in the continuous exchanges and mutual understanding of civilizations along the Silk Road, which not only promoted the development and ascension of Buddhist statue art, but also played an important role in the process of the introduction of Buddhism into China and its gradual localization.
"Buddhist Wisdom in Xiangshan Mountain: Gandhara Heritage Art Exhibition" was co-sponsored by the Palace Museum, Pakistan's National Heritage and Culture Ministry of Archaeology and Museums Bureau with the exhibition period of three months, a total of 173 pieces (sets) of cultural relics from seven Pakistani museums and the Palace Museum of 30 pieces (sets) of cultural relics. These artifacts are mostly unearthed from archaeological excavations, showing the charm of Gandhara art and the original historical appearance of multiculturalism.
