On January 31, 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi hosted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2024 New Year Reception at the National Grand Theater. More than 400 people attended, including ambassadors of various countries and representatives of international organizations in China, as well as representatives of various departments and bureaus of the Chinese side.

Wang Yi said in his speech that in the year 2023, the world has endured the baptism of turbulent change and nurtured the momentum of development and progress. We have traveled through epidemics and cherish more the value of exchanges, we experienced crises and wars and strengthen our pursuit of peace. More and more countries and people have come to realize that human beings are in solidarity with each other, that the world depends on each other for warmth and coldness, and that the future of the global village lies in our own hands. Over the past year, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China's diplomacy has risen to the challenge and taken up its role. We have insisted on dialogue and cooperation as the mainstay of positive interaction among major countries; practiced friendship and reciprocity as a reliable partner in building the Asian homeland; insisted on joining hands to make progress together as a steadfast member of the Global South; insisted on urging peace and facilitating negotiation as a key force in safeguarding world peace; and insisted on openness and development as a powerful engine for global recovery. The Chinese people and the people of the world will offer opportunities on each other, walk side by side, open their doors to share opportunities for development, open their arms to welcome friends from around the globe, continue to inject invaluable stability and positive energy into the world, and make new contributions to the maintenance of world peace and the promotion of common development.

Wang Yi said that 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and a crucial year for comprehensively advancing Chinese-style modernization. China has made the building of a community of human destiny the lofty goal of its new era of great power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, and is ready to work with all countries to build the foundation of peace and security, unite the forces of friendship and cooperation, take the path of multilateralism and build a future of development and prosperity with the future of mankind as its top priority, and the well-being of its people as its top priority.

On behalf of the heads of foreign missions in China, Mr. Martin Mbana, Ambassador of Cameroon in China wished the Chinese people a happy Chinese New Year. He said that China has carried out a series of bilateral and multilateral diplomatic activities over the past year, which have enhanced mutual understanding among countries and promoted world peace and development, and China's importance in the globe is growing. Countries around the world look forward to being guided by the three major global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping and working together to make the world a safer, more peaceful and more prosperous place.
