On November 15, the 2023 World Tourism Alliance · Xianghu Dialogue opened in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Rao Quan, member of Standing Committee of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Minister of Publicity Zhao Cheng, Mayor of Hangzhou Yao Gaoyuan, President of World Tourism Alliance Zhang Xu attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Rao Quan said that WTA, as an important international organization in tourism, served as a pivotal platform for boosting economy, promoting people-to-people exchanges and facilitating tourism to reduce poverty. Meanwhile, it vividly epitomized wider opening up in China, and shared opportunities as well as mutual benefits and win-win results around the world.
Chinese government has attached great significance to developing tourism. Continuous efforts have been made to strengthen policy support, enrich product supply and unleash consumption potential, which has thus boosted mass tourism, smart tourism, green tourism and civilized tourism. Therefore, China has made remarkable achievements in the deep integration of culture and tourism. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China is willing to join hands with other international tourism organizations, departments and professionals of various countries to improve bilateral and multilateral mechanisms for tourism exchange and cooperation, solidate policy coordination, market development, product supply, personnel training and information sharing, making greater contributions to global tourism.
The “Xianghu Dialogue” has opened for 4 sessions since its launch in 2018. The theme of this dialogue was “The Power of Travel and Tourism—Towards A Better Future”. Partners included the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the World Travel and Tourism Industry Council, the European Tourism Commission, the World Tourism Economic Forum, the Asia Pacific Travel Association, the World Wildlife Fund and other 6 international organizations and institutions. Government officials, diplomatic envoys from 37 countries and regions, as well as representatives from international organizations, tourism and tourism-related enterprises and cities, associations and academia attended the event.
