On August 8, the 2023 Cross-Strait (Anhui) Travel Merchants Conference, jointly organized by the Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits, the People's Government of Anhui Province, the General Association of Travel Agencies in Taiwan, the Travel Quality Assurance Association of Taiwan, and the Taiwan Cross-Strait Travel Association, was inaugurated in Hefei Prefecture Level City, Anhui Province. Prior to the conference, important guests from Taiwan were received by Mr. Wang Qingxian, Governor of the People's Government of Anhui Province, and Mr. Lu Yingchuan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Deputy Minister Lu Yingchuan and Vice Governor Sun Yong of the People's Government of Anhui Province attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Representatives from cultural and tourism departments (bureaus) of 31 provinces (regions, municipalities, and cities) on the mainland, as well as over 700 guests and travel industry professionals from both mainland China and Taiwan, participated in the event.
In his opening speech, Deputy Minister Lu Yingchuan pointed out that the tourism industry is a sunrise industry and an industry that creates happiness. It serves as an important indicator of the improvement in people's living standards and has become a significant prerequisite for meeting people’s needs for a better life and promoting comprehensive human development. Cross-strait tourism has effectively enhanced communication and feelings between compatriots on both sides, as well as promoted extensive economic and social cooperation. The 2023 Cross-Strait (Anhui) Travel Merchants Conference is the largest cross-strait tourism exchange event in recent years. Mr. Lu Yingchuan warmly welcomed Taiwanese compatriots to visit the mainland for tourism and sightseeing and sincerely hoped that the conference would continue to thrive and become a distinctive and advantageous brand for tourism exchange and cooperation between the two sides of the strait.
In his speech, Vice Governor Sun Yong stated that Anhui Province has consistently prioritized the promotion of tourism exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan. The Taiwan region has been the top source of inbound tourists to Anhui for several consecutive years. Tourism serves as an important platform to promote interaction, communication, and integration between Anhui and Taiwan, and it is a crucial means to enhance the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait. In the future, efforts will be made to deepen cooperation in the domestic and external tourism markets, especially to strengthen Anhui-Taiwan interactions, providing ample space for further deepening cross-strait tourism cooperation and exchanges.
Representatives of the Taiwanese organizing units expressed in their speeches that the Cross-Strait Travel Merchants Conference is an important platform to enhance emotional connections and interactions in the cross-strait tourism industry. The cooperative space in the cross-strait tourism industry is boundlessly extensive, and both sides of the strait are sure to mutually benefit from the tourism market.
This year's Cross-Strait Travel Merchants Conference has carefully designed multiple segments, including "Exchange Between Representatives from the Industry on Both Sides of the Strait," "Release of Preferential Policies for Cultural and Tourism Cooperation with Taiwan," "Cross-Strait Travel Merchants Negotiation and Exchange Meeting," and "Mainland Tourism Product Promotion Event." These segments have provided a platform for deepening communication and cooperation in the cross-strait tourism industry. After the conference, nearly 300 Taiwanese travel merchants will conduct inspections and visits within Anhui Province.
