In recent days, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism convened an expert symposium on the promotion of high-quality development in the tourism industry to listen to the advice and suggestions from expert scholars and entrepreneurs. Mr. Hu Heping, Secretary of the Leading Party Member's Group and Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, attended and addressed the symposium. Mr. Du Jiang, member of the Leading Party Member's Group and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, hosted the symposium.

During the symposium, experts and scholars from research institutes, higher education institutions, and associations, as well as entrepreneurs from the tourism sector, offered their advice and suggestions regarding the promotion of the potential of tourist consumption and the healthy development of the tourism industry, centering around the current development landscape of the tourism industry and the challenges and difficulties it faces.

Mr. Hu Heping stated that since the beginning of 2023, along with the major decisive victory achieved in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic and the manifestation of the effects of stabilizing economic policies, the tourism industry in China has seen a rapid and strong recovery and a stable, upward-facing development trend. In the meantime, however, the industry still faces certain difficulties and challenges. As an industry characterized by its comprehensiveness and synergistic effect on other sectors, the tourism industry needs to grasp this opportunity and take advantage of this upward momentum to consolidate and improve this recovery trend, aim for high-quality development goals, and play an active and positive role in areas such as stabilizing the economy, encouraging consumption, and safeguarding employment.

Mr. Hu emphasized that the tourism industry needs to study in-depth and implement the spirit of the important discourse by General Secretary Xi Jinping on tourism and fully recognize the significance of promoting the development of tourism in fulfilling the people's needs for better lives and enhancing the quality of national economic development. It also needs to up-play the role of tourism in benefiting the people and creating synergies, scientifically grasp the positioning of tourism development in the New Era, enrich the supply of high-quality tourism products, improve the convenience of inbound tourism, stimulate the potential of tourist consumption, step up the rule of law and maintain market order in the tourism industry, and make efforts to promote the high-quality development of the tourism industry.

Mr. Hu also emphasized that the tourism industry needs to adhere to the unification of problem-oriented and goal-oriented mentalities, extensively study and promote the key problems regarding the high-quality development of the tourism industry, accurately grasp the law of high-quality tourism development, continuously enhance the capacity-building of the tourism industry, consistently improve the policies and measures regarding the promotion of tourism development, deliver solid policies and strategies to enrich the supply of tourist products and stimulate tourist consumption, making efforts to promote the continued recovery and development of the tourism industry to achieve high-quality development goals.
