On 21 July, the 3rd China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week commenced in Danzhai County, Guizhou Province. The event is hosted by the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the People’s Government of Qiandongnan Prefecture, with guidance from the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Department of Resource Development of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Mr. Luo Shugang, member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Health, and Sports of the National Committee of CPPCC, along with Mr. Rao Quan, Party Committee member and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Wang Xiaofeng, President of the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Association, Mr. Sang Weiliang, Party Committee member and Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Guizhou Provincial People’s Congress and Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, Mr. Yu Jie, Party Committee member of the Standing Committee of Guizhou Provincial People’s Congress, and other leaders, attended the opening ceremony and officially launched the 3rd China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week.
In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Rao Quan stated that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has been implementing the guiding spirit of the important speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping on culture and tourism work, working collectively with colleagues from all relevant sectors to fully implement the policies of intangible cultural heritage protection as outlined in “prioritizing protection, putting rescue work first, ensuring rational use, preservation, and development” while upholding the values of cultural confidence, integrity, and innovation, taking multiple measures and implementing policies accurately. The organization of the 3rd China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week was an important measure to study in-depth and implement the spirit General Secretary Xi’s important speech at the Symposium on Cultural Heritage and Development, promote the high-quality development of the cultural and tourism industry, facilitate the protection and preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and accelerate the deeply integrated development of intangible cultural heritage and tourism. The event attracted representative intangible cultural heritage projects from Guizhou Province and various regions across China to collectively showcase and advertise themselves using both online and offline methods, creating a broad platform for communication and cooperation among all sectors and allowing people to enjoy the movable feast of intangible cultural heritage.
Accompanied by beautiful folk singing and splendid folk dance from the Miao and Dong ethnic groups as well as many other impressive intangible cultural heritage performances, the 3rd China Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week was unveiled. The opening ceremony also included a signing ceremony for investment projects in the cultural and tourism industry of Qindongnan Prefecture. This year’s Danzhai Intangible Cultural Heritage Week carries the theme of “Intangible Cultural Heritage - Shining in Vogue”, and aims to “unlock a tourist season, attract a series of solid projects, stimulate a wave of consumer spending”. The Intangible Cultural Heritage Week hosts 12 activities - including the opening ceremony, forums on the integrated development of intangible cultural heritage and tourism and youth cultural preservation, intangible cultural heritage fashion and talent shows, the Guizhou indigenous people’s folk singing contest, and the intangible cultural heritage food market - that aims at promoting the deeply integrated development of intangible cultural heritage and tourism by showcasing the rich and colourful intangible cultural heritage projects and the fruitful results of intangible cultural heritage protection. The events will continue until 26 July.
