Let’s attend the Tianma Festival to resume the vigor of the Silk Road. On July 16th, the 31st Ili Tianma International Tourism Festival (Tianma Festival) opened at the Tianma tourism and culture park in Zhaosu County, sounding a clarion call for the grand grassland gathering in Xinjiang.

Located in the southwest of Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture and the west tip of Ili River Valley, Zhaosu County is the only county without deserts in Xinjiang. Endowed with natural resources and quality husbandry and farming resources, the county covers an area of 100,000 hectares of arable land with quality chernozem and some 490,000 hectares of world-class natural grasslands and is the birthplace of lli horses. Labeled as the hometown of lli horses in China, Zhaosu County has a long history of horse culture such as tianma or lli horses, army horses and national horses and is a leisure tourist area rich in horse culture.

Those present at the opening ceremony are Member of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress, vice-chairman of Ethnic Affairs Committee and honorary chairman of China Horse Industry Association Hanibati Shabukhai, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of CPPCC and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Hong Kang, Macao and Taiwan Liu Fan, member of the 13th CPPCC, former Party member of Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs, and chairman of the Law Institute of Agricultural and Rural Affairs Song Jianchao, vice chairman of Xinjiang CPPCC Ai Shanjiang Ai Hopai Ti, leaders from China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center, college of Veterinary Medicine of China Agricultural University, offices and bureaus of some autonomous regions, Xinjiang Agricultural University, Xinjiang TV Station of China Media Group, and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, deputy secretary of CPC and minister of Publicity Department of Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture Quran Saifulkhan, deputy secretary of CPC in Ili and commanding officer of Headquarter of Assisting Ili Prefecture in Jiangsu Zhao Qinghong, member of Standing Committee of Ili Party Committee, and leaders of relevant units in Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture.

Secretary of Zhaosu County Committee Hou Tao addressed that it has been 31 years since the county hosted the first Tianma Festival in 1992 and upgraded it to the Ili Tianma International Tourism Festival in 2009. Today, the festival has become one of the successful cases of holding influential tourism festivals in Xinjiang and even across the board. Hosting the 31st Tianma Festival is a major measure of promoting integration of culture and tourism and shows the strong desire of the people in the County to make friends with the world. The anticipated grassland gathering will further displays Zhaosu’s charm in the new era and definitely becomes a stage to receive people around the world, a ribbon of friendship and a golden bridge for cooperation. On behalf of the Zhaosu County Committee, Peopls’s Government of Zhaosu County and the comrades and masses of all ethnic groups of the County, I warmly welcome leaders,guests and tourists who are present at the gathering and sincerely thank leaders who care and support the development of all cases in Zhaosu, provinces and cities that assist us, sister counties and cities, and people from all walks of life!

Deputy secretary of CPC in Ili and commanding officer of Headquarter of Assisting Ili Prefecture in Jiangsu Zhao Qinghong unveiled the 2023 Yili Tianma International Tourism Festival.

The Festival has three parts - festival preheating, activities of culture and tourism, and  all-for-one tourism in Zhaosu, which contain large art performance at the opening ceremony and twenty relevant activities. The performance at the opening ceremony has four chapters - Tianma welcoming

guests, the myth of the Silk Road, Tianma Wonder and continuity and Inheritance. Excellent programs such as Horse Show, Xijun Princess Made Peace with rulers of Wusun by Marriage, Zhaosu Gathering and Splendid Border show the unique scenery, cultural landscape and folk custom in Zhaosu County. Yu Xulin, a tourist from Guangxi said that “the opening ceremony is magnificent with wonderful performance of all actors. It enables us to realize how charming and unique Zhaosu is.”

It is reported that the Festival will not end until the second of the October. And it revolves around the theme of attending the Tianma Festival to resume the vigor of the Silk Road to conduct more than 21 activities of three parts, which attracts numerous tourists to go sightseeing here.
