Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, Met Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism

    In the afternoon of July 21st, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, chief executive of Hong Kong SAR, met Zhang Xu, vice minister of culture and tourism. They exchanged ideas on communication and cooperation of culture and tourism between Hong Kong and the interior land of China.

    Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor thanked the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for it’s support to Hong Kong’s culture and tourism development. She said that the Chinese government stipulated for the 1st time in the “14th five year plan” that it supported Hong Kong to establish itself to be a communication center for cultural and art development of Chinese and foreign culture. In addition, recently, the management center of China National Arts Fund would process the financing projects applied by art practitioners and institutions in Hong Kong and Macao. The above were recognition of Hong Kong’s culture cause and a catalyst for cultural circle. The SAR government was encouraged and would spend more effort in multiple aspects to develop the culture and art communication center between China and the international society. Amid the pandemic, cross-border tourism was in stagnation, so was tourism-related industries in Hong Kong. As a result, the SAR government had been creating condition to resume the travel by strictly controlling the pandemic, inoculating vaccines and establishing supporting measures to help industries to overcome difficulties. She expected that when the pandemic was under control, the tourism communication and cooperation would be enhanced between Hong Kong and the interior land of China to push the high-quality development of tourism.

    Zhang Xu said that under the leadership of Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Hong Kong SAR Government had been coping with social economic development as well as pandemic control and prevention. In the national “14th five year” were stipulations that the government supported Hong Kong and Macao to develop their competitive advantages and Hong Kong to develop it’s culture and art communication center between China and the international society. He hoped that Hong Kong could seize the opportunity and make full use of cultural platforms like West Kowloon Cultural District to facilitate the long-term development of it’s culture. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism would also follow this guideline and stipulate relating measures to accumulate resource for the recovery and development of Hong Kong’s culture and tourism; to deepen the cultural and tourism communication and cooperation between Hong Kong and the interior land of China and to support Hong Kong to be integrated into the national development plan.
