On October 21st, Gao Jianjun, mayor of the Kaifeng City, met Fernando Lugris, Uruguay’s Ambassador to China, and his colleagues who went to Henan Province to attended a series of activities named “Uruguay Week”. They discussed methods to increase the friendship between Kaifeng and Uruguay and to deepen practical cooperation as well as signed relating cooperation agreements. Yin Jun, vice mayor, attended the event as well.
On behalf of the municipal CPC committee and local people’s government, Gao Jianjun expressed his warm welcome to Fernando Lugris for his second visit to this place. He said that the ambassador’s first visit was in the May of this year and He was also the first ambassador who came to this city amid the pandemic, so these two trips were significant. Officials from Florida and Kaifeng signed a letter of intent to be friendly cities, marking a new stage of friendly communication between the two cities. After the start of the “Uruguay Week” in Kaifeng Province, 74 pieces of artworks and 4 movies composed an art feast for audience, enabling local people to enjoy exotic charm without going too far from their homes. Both parties exchanged ideas on football and cultural tourism, providing wider cooperation space for future communication.
Gao Jianjun said that with the effort of the whole city, Kaifeng had overcame the negative influence of the Covid-19. Economy had recovered in all aspects. Major economic indicators had reached and surpassed that of the same period of the last year and had maintained good momentum, which was a solid basis for the communication and cooperation between the two cities. I did hope that there would be more cooperation between Kaifeng and Uruguay, especially Florida, in terms of economy, trade, culture, tourism, sports and other aspects, so people in the two cities and the two countries would be benefited.
Fernando Lugris said that he was very happy to revisit Kaifeng which was a beautiful and safe city. Uruguay and Henan Province, including Kaifeng, could complement each other in economy, which lied a solid foundation for close cooperation. He needed to express his gratitude to the support from Kaifeng City. The series of activities in Kaifeng named “Uruguay Week” had been carried out orderly, showing residents the culture of this foreign country. He hoped that there would be more communication and cooperation in culture, sports, education and other aspects and wished that the cooperation between the two cities would be an example of the friendship between China and Uruguay.
Wei Peishi, director of the Culture, Radio, Film and Television Tourism Bureau of Kaifeng City, and Lou Heyan, director of the Municipal Bureau of Education and Sports, represented Kaifeng to sign agreements with Fernando Lugris, including the Letter of Intent on Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Between the Kaifeng City of Henan Province of China and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay and the Agreement on the Cooperative Structure of Football Promotion Between the Kaifeng City of Henan Province of China and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
