On April 30th, the opening ceremony of the Ceramics Gallery of the Palace Museum is hold in the Hall of Martial Valor. Wang Xudong, the director of the museum, and members of the leading party group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism attend and deliver speeches. The event is hosted by Du Haijiang, the deputy director and the secretary of party committee of the museum.
Wang Xudong says in his speech that researchers of ceramics have conducted a series of studies on unsolved problems and had many academic achievements, all of which are shown to the public to promote profound Chinese ceramics culture. Plenty of collection and the latest archaeological findings and scientific testing methods have been used. Achievements offer academic support for the change of exhibition of the Ceramics Gallery. In the first year of the “14th Five Year Plan”, the Palace Museum will have a clear, right and complete understanding of the new development ideology which will also be carried out; see the construction of the “four Palace Museums” as a support and push the innovative transformation and innovative development of the outstanding traditional Chinese culture carried by the Palace Museum to realize the high-quality development of the Palace Museum.
The main exhibition halls of the Ceramics Gallery are the main hall of Hall of Martial Valor, Gong-shaped Hall and Jingsi Hall, the back hall. According to time order, the exhibition is arranged in ten themes from the Neolithic Age to the Republic of China era. There are independent showcases for all kinds of “large vases with multicoloured glaze”. At the entrance of the main hall of Hall of Martial Valor, a room is constructed. It’s “an exhibition within an exhibition” and the collection in it will also be changed from time to time. In the east and the west halls of the Hall of Martial Valor are for collections in Qing Dynasties of six themes which are marriage, sacrifice, dining, decorations, birthday and religion. In the northwest corner of the yard are ceramics that are made to be sold to foreign countries. In addition, “collection exhibition for Chinese ancient kiln sites” and a “room for ceramics data” originally in the west hall of the Palace of Prolong Happiness are now situate in the north guard room of the east and west hall of the Hall of Martial Valor, which makes it a hall especially prepared for various ceramics cultural relics.
