Recently in Beijing, Zhang Xu, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism, meets Clare Fearnley, New Zealand’s Ambassador in China.

Zhang Xu says that good momentum has been maintained for relationship between China and New Zealand. Comprehensive strategic partnership is continuously deepened and cooperation in all areas are being promoted steadily. In 2019, the two countries hold China New Zealand Year of Tourism during which governments organized a series of amazing celebrations. After the Covid-19 outbreak, two countries continue to enhance cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation on line or with other methods. The year 2022 marks the arrival of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games and of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and New Zealand. I hope these opportunities can help China-New Zealand relationship to develop to a new level.

Clare Fearnley says that tourism accounts for a significant part in New Zealand’s economy. Before the pandemic, China is the second largest country in terms of tourism population for New Zealand. We are happy to work hand in hand with China to prepare for the tourism recovery after the pandemic. In addition, we need to enable people in our two countries to connect from the bottom of their hearts through practical cooperation in culture, art and rural tourism.
