On February 10th, President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, underlined that the current novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) situation is still grave during an inspection of NCP prevention and control work in Beijing. The Party committees and governments at various levels are required to resolutely implement the decisions and deployment of the CPC Central Committee for the prevention and control of the outbreak with firm confidence, concerted efforts, scientific containment and targeted policies. He urged redoubled efforts, firmer resolve and more decisive measures to curb the spread of NCP and win the battle against the epidemic.
On the afternoon of February 10th, Xi Jinping, accompanied by Cai Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Party secretary of Beijing, and Chen Jining, mayor of Beijing, inspected NCP prevention and control work at the community, hospital and center for diseases control and prevention. He also conveyed the Central Committee’s regards through video call to medical workers, officials and employees across the country who were working in the front line of the NCP prevention and control.
Xi firstly visited the Anhuali residential community in Chaoyang district, where he learned about prevention and control at the primary level. At the headquarters for the prevention and control of the pneumonia outbreak in community, Xi listened to the introduction of Anzhen Street and Anhuali community about their joint prevention and control of the epidemic, and hailed their effective measures. He stressed the role of community in effectively containing the spread of the epidemic. While the fruits of the ongoing CPC education campaign themed “staying true to our founding mission” are to be tested through the effects of the prevention and control work, the grassroots Party organizations and members are urged to play the guiding and exemplary role in motivating residents to defend their communities.
Since January 12th, Beijing Ditan Hospital began to treat, screen and separate NCP patients, and admitted the first confirmed case in Beijing. Xi checked the treatment of hospitalized patients at the monitoring center and talked to medical staff on duty via a video link. Xi called on medical staff to continue to improve the diagnosis and treatment plan, save patients at all costs so as to improve the admission and survival rates and reduce the infection and mortality rates. He also reminded them to take good self-protection.
Xi has been very concerned about the contagion in Hubei and Wuhan. At the hospital, Xi talked to frontline medical workers, officials, employees and armed force in three hospitals in Wuhan receiving infected patients with a telenedicine system, and listened to their suggestions. He stressed that medical workers across the nation have demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility towards the Party and the people as they remain true to the original aspiration and keep their mission firmly in mind to respond to the Party’s call and resolutely fight in the front line of prevention. He noted that the NCP situation is still grave and medical staff should remain tough and brave as the chief cornerstone in the battle. They were also required to put people’s lives and physical health as top priority and treat patients at all costs so as to win the fight and defend Wuhan and Hubei.
Then, Xi chaired a video conference through telemedicine system to listen to the reports by Sun Chunlan, member of the CPC Central Political Bureau, vice premier of the State Council and head of the guiding group of the Central Committee, and Jiang Chaoliang, Party chief of Hubei provincial committee of the CPC. Xi delivered important remarks. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, he firstly extended regards to Party members, officials and people in Hubei, and expressed appreciation for the medical workers, officers and soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army, as well as comrades from all walks of life on the fronline of epidemic prevention and control. Moreover, he spoke of his sorrow for those who died from NCP and expressed deep sympathy to their bereaved families. He also extended sincere sympathy to the patients and their families. Xi noted that the Party members, officials and people in Hubei province especially in Wuhan proactively responded to the Party Central Committee’s call for firm confidence, bigger picture, active actions and tough fight. The whole country upholds the belief that when disaster strikes, help comes from all sides. The medical workers, soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army as well as personnel from all walks of life assisting Wuhan advanced in greater difficulties by strictly enforcing orders with perseverance and no fear of sacrifice. Great contributions have been seen to prevent and control the contagion.
Xi stressed that the whole Party, armed forces and people of all ethnic groups in China should stand together with the people of Hubei and Wuhan. The CPC Central Committee sent the guiding group to Wuhan not only for strengthening the guidance on the prevention and control work of the front line, but also for fighting together with people in Hubei. Wuhan is a heroic city and its people are heroes who have never been crushed by any difficulty and danger in history. As long as our comrades unite as one and work bravely to overcome difficulties for the moment, we will score a full victory in fighting against the pneumonia epidemic.
