Recently, the 2019 Tang Xianzu Theater Festival and International Theater Exchange Month, organized by the provincial government of Jiangxi, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China Theater Association, kicked off in Fuzhou, Jiangxi province. Fuzhou has held the international exchanges of Tang Xianzu for the fourth consecutive year since 2016.
At the opening ceremony, a traditional Chinese drama by hundreds of singers and dramatists unveiled this theater feast while the Bijiashan in the center of stage, which is a symbol of dream and home, was being lit up. Then the singers of Xuhe pitch, Yue opera and Kunqu opera jointly performed a song Peony Pavilion. Besides, some classic foreign dramas and dances have been also staged during the event.
At the scene, related activities were firstly held simultaneously at the Peony Pavilion replicas in Stratford, Britain, and the Russian city of Perm. On April 26th, the first overseas replica of Peony Pavilion was built in Stratford, Britain, the hometown of British playwright William Shakespeare, In September, the Peony Pavilion was also established in Perm, Russia.
It is said that a series of events including Tang Xianzu international academic seminar, exhibitions and performances of classic Chinese and foreign dramas, diplomat’s tour in Jiangxi and China-British cultural and tourism week, will be held during the Theater Exchange Month. Meanwhile, the diplomats to China, cultural officials, experts and scholars from over ten countries including British, Spain and France, will tour in Fuzhou to have in-depth exchanges.
