Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, visited an exhibition of achievements in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) at the Beijing Exhibition Center in Beijing, capital of China, Sept 23, 2019. He stressed that during the seven decades since the founding of the PRC, the CPC has remained true to its original aspiration and kept its mission firmly in mind to led people across the country to overcome one obstacle after another, creating miracle upon miracle. The Chinese nation has achieved a tremendous transformation: It has stood up, grown rich and become stronger over the past decades. Xi said the historic achievements China has made in the past seven decades and the historic changes it has undergone fully demonstrate that only the CPC can lead China; only with socialism can we save China; only with reform and opening up can we develop China, develop socialism and develop Marxism; and only with the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics can we lead China toward prosperity and strength. Looking ahead, Xi called for efforts to hold high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, stay united and enterprising, and work tirelessly to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
Senior officials Li Keqiang, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng and Wang Qishan also visited the exhibition.
Xi and the other leaders arrived at the Beijing Exhibition Center at around 4:10 pm to start the tour. The exhibition consists of five sections in chronological order showcasing major junctures including the previous National Congress of the Party, important Plenary Sessions of the CPC Central Committee and Five Year Plans. Meanwhile there are 150 exhibits featuring the “firsts” in New China displayed. The walls of heroes and models are set up every ten years to present the great leapfrog advances of China led by the CPC since the founding of the New China in 1949, present the political advantages of the CPC leadership and the socialist system and reveal profound reasons of China’s remarkable changes.
The items on display include a video clip recording the PRC's founding ceremony in 1949, a picture capturing the moment when the PRC's lawful seat was restored in the United Nations in 1971, an occasion depicting changes of several generations in destiny after the resumption of Gaokao system in 1977, a group photo displaying 18 villagers in Xiaogang village who signed a secret pact to divide communally owned farmland into family plots, a video reflecting Pudong’s refreshing changes, a scene of flood relief in 1998 with the spirit of a nation united as one and jointly facing challenges with united strength, a design that recreates scenes of the Beijing Olympics, models simulating China's lunar rover and the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), and a model of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the world's longest cross-sea bridge.... Xi and other senior officials were impressed by pictures, real models, video clips and interactive experience at the exhibition, and they listened to the introduction carefully and inquired about some relevant information.
Visitors also included members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, State Councilors, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), vice-chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) as well as members of the Central Military Commission.
