The “Longquan Celadon and Globalization” exhibition kicks off in the Palace Museum

On July 15th, the “Longquan Celadon and Globalization” exhibition kicked off in the Palace Museum. Wang Xudong, a Party member of Culture and Tourism, and Cheng Yuechong, vice-governor of Zhejiang Province, were present. The exhibition, co-hosted by the Palace Museum, Zhejiang Provincial Museum and Lishui People’s Government, introduced cultural exchanges, mutual learning and development between China foreign countries through Longquan Celadon. During the exhibition, 833 pieces of pottery from 42 museums will be on display. 

Longquan celadon includes the celadon porcelain made at the kilns centered around Dayao and Jincun in Longquan city during the Song(960-1127), Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties as well as the similar celadon pottery made in neighbouring regions at the same period. Longquan celadon, as one of famous porcelain category in Chinese porcelain development, took shape with its own style in Song Dynasty. Besides, it also appeared in most of countries and regions along with the maritime silk road and the ancient silk road as one of major export goods during the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties. 

The exhibition consists of four sections: Time-honored Longquan, which tells a story of time-honored Longquan Kiln; National Wares, which studies the profound relations between Longquan celadon and government in different historic periods and showcases its inner link with fine traditional Chinese culture; Worldwide Popularity, which introduces Longquan celadon’s sale and export; Fusion and Echo, which showcases duplicated Longquan pottery by domestic kilns and describes the trace of its development in technological broadcasting and mutual learning.
