Reform and opening-up is a great revolution which not only brings rapid economic development, improvement of people’s living standard and enhancement of international influence but also changes the spirit of the nation and people to be full of self-confidence, self-esteem and self-reliance. Our confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics was established in the historic course of opening-up and reform. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the Central Committee, with Xi Jinping as its core, held high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and put forward a set of new concepts, new ideas and new conclusions in comprehensively deepening reform. Some strategies have been implemented and made historic achievements, which fortify Chinese people’s confidence in path, theory, system, culture in new era.
China should make clear its historic position and strengthen confidence in path as the path decides the direction that determines the fate. Since opening-up and reform, socialism with Chinese characteristics is the theme of all theories and practices and it is also valuable achievements by the Party and people. The course of socialism with Chinese characteristics is creating new prospects because of the great practice of opening-up and reform. Through long-term endeavors, socialism with Chinese characteristics enters a new era, which is new historic position of development in China. In this new era, we should consistently achieve great victory of socialism with Chinese characteristics and have firm confidence in path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
China should innovate guiding ideology and increase confidence in theory. Great practice is always under the guidance of great theory. In the course of reform and opening-up, the Communist Party of China consistently combines the basic tenets of Marxism with the real conditions of China, thus establishing Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Theory of Three Represents and the Scientific Outlook on Development. Since the Party’s 18th National Congress, Chinese Communists, with Comrade Xi Jinping as their core, in response to contemporary developments by integrating theory with practice, have systematically addressed the major question of our times—what kind of socialism with Chinese characteristics in new era requires us to uphold and develop and how we should uphold and develop it, thus giving shape to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Comrade Xi Jinping said, “ Today, we are facing a great historic mission, namely carrying forward a more mature system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and providing more complete, stable and effective institutional system for the development of the Party and country, for people’s happiness and well-being, for social stability and harmony as well as the long-term stability of a country. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping as a core, pursued the major goal of improving and developing the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and modernizing China’s system and capacity for governance. It has also been conducting institutional and scientific design to further give play to the advantages and potentials of socialism with Chinese characteristics, thus gradually increasing people’s confidence in system.
We should develop a strong culture and strengthen cultural confidence. Comrade Xi Jinping said, “Culture is a country and nation’s soul. Our country will thrive only if our culture thrives, and our nation will be strong only if our culture is strong. Without full confidence in our culture, without a rich and prosperous culture, there will be no Chinese nation’s rejuvenation.” Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, under the guidance of Central Committee with the Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, the reform of cultural mechanism has been continually deepened; basic public cultural services have been prudently improved; cultural programs and industries are going strong and fine traditional Chinese culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture have been widely spread. Core socialist values are alive in the people’s hearts; international exchanges have become more frequently and the international influence of Chinese culture have increased significantly. Cultural confidence is enhanced through developing a great socialist culture in China.
