On the morning of September 21st, the opening ceremony of the 8th Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo was held in Dunhuang. The theme of this year's Dunhuang Cultural Expo is "Strengthening Cultural Exchange and Promoting Mutual Learning among Civilizations". Over 1,000 domestic and foreign guests have gathered in Dunhuang. The expo period includes 17 activities in 7 categories, such as the opening ceremony, cultural exhibitions, artistic performances, study Tours and exchanges, and investment promotion. The 2025 Dunhuang Forum will be held concurrently, featuring 6 types of forums and 12 special activities. It will release the latest achievements in the protection of world cultural heritage and Dunhuang studies, and deepen cultural exchanges and practical cooperation among the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.

Tie Ning, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, delivered a keynote speech and declared the opening. Qu Xing, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Prasop Liangen, Deputy Minister of Culture of Thailand, Shliakhtin Dmitri Gennadyevich, First Deputy Minister of Culture of Belarus, and Joseph Isak, Speaker of Dominica, delivered speeches in turn.

Sun Yeli, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and secretary of the Party Leadership Group and minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, attended. Hu Changsheng, Secretary of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial People's Congress, delivered a speech. Ren Zhenhe, the deputy secretary of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the governor of Gansu Province, presided over the opening ceremony.

Hu Changsheng, on behalf of the provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, the provincial government, the provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the people of the whole province, extended a warm welcome to all the guests. It provides a "Chinese solution" for promoting the development and progress of human civilization and building a community with a shared future for mankind. As a comprehensive international expo in China with the theme of cultural exchange along the "Belt and Road Initiative", the Dunhuang Cultural Expo has played a positive role in promoting cultural integration, ideological convergence and emotional connection. Looking to the future, we are willing to work hand in hand with friends at home and abroad to deepen cooperation, move forward together, share new development opportunities and write a new chapter of cooperation.

Qu Xing, on behalf of UNESCO, extended warm congratulations on the grand opening of the 8th Dunhuang Cultural Expo. He said, "The name of Dunhuang is like a call that transcends a thousand years, evoking people's yearning for distant journeys." The Mogao Caves in Dunhuang are the crystallization of the integration and convergence of various cultures and civilizations from China and abroad. The Silk Road was not only a commercial passage, but more importantly, it embodied the "Silk Road Spirit". For this reason, UNESCO launched the "Silk Road Initiative" in 1988, through a series of thematic publications, to trace how the Silk Road has shaped the development trajectory of human society over the centuries. It is hoped that with this Cultural Expo as an opportunity, the "Silk Road Project" will continue to thrive in Dunhuang.

Prasop Liang 'en said that Dunhuang is not only a famous historical city but also a symbol of the Silk Road - an important hub for the convergence of civilizations, the exchange of ideas and the mutual learning of arts. As the guest of honor at this year's Cultural Expo, Thailand showcased its unique cultural heritage and ethnic customs. Thailand and China are friendly neighbors with a long-standing friendship. The two countries have stood together through thick and thin and supported each other, vividly demonstrating the profound bond of "one family". This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, we will actively explore and promote practical cooperation in the cultural field, facilitate mutual learning between the two civilizations, and further enhance the friendly sentiments between the people of Thailand and China.
