Jiangsu Cultural Week 2019 takes place in Malaysia

On December 18th, Jiangsu Cultural Week, under the theme of “Water Charming Jiangsu, Meet in Kuala Lumpur”, kicked off in China Cultural Center in Kuala Lumpur. 
In this year, Jiangsu Cultural Week will take place in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca with colorful events including the photo exhibition themed “Water Charming Jiangsu”, Qinhuai lantern fair, the exposition of calligraphy and painting works of notable artists in Jiangsu province, the exhibition of intangible cultural projects of Yancheng and Nantong, as well as the activities of “To Benefit Overseas Chinese through Chinese Medicine” and “The Prosperity of Chinese Cuisine”.
Li Guohua, vice-chairman of the Jiangsu Chinese Overseas Friendship Association, said that Jiangsu and Malaysia have a long history of exchanges and closer cooperation in various sectors. As this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between two countries, the cultural week held in Malaysia will enable local residents to gain a better understanding of Jiangsu. Moreover, Jiangsu, located in the eastern coastal region of China with prosperous economy, developed education and splendid culture, is the convergence of the Belt and Road. While Malaysia is an important country along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road with stable politics and diverse culture. It is expected to expand mutual friendly visits and all-round cooperation through this cultural week.
Hong Laixi, president of the Federation of Malaysian Chinese Surnames Associations, said that China and Malaysia have a long history of exchanges. Ever since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, they have seen fruitful results in various fields. Last year, the Jiangsu Cultural Week was successfully held in Malacca with warm responses. It is hoped that more cultural events of Jiangsu will take place in Malaysia to promote cultural exchanges between the two sides.
At the opening ceremony, the artists from Yancheng and Nantong in Jiangsu province performed such a great deal of skill as hair embroidery of Dongtai, farmer painting of Sheyang and porcelain carving of Dafeng.
Zhang Zhen, cultural counselor of Chinese Embassy to Malaysia, and Zhnag Jiexin, director of the China Cultural Center in Kuala Lumpur, attended the opening ceremony.
