The China-Thailand “Friendship Cup” Chinese Proficiency Competition is held in Thailand

In the afternoon of September 1st, the final of China-Thailand “Friendship Cup” Chinese Proficiency Competition 2019 was held in Hat Yai, Songkhla. Through fierce competition, four students finally got access to studying in China.  

It is the first time that Thailand held such Chinese proficiency competition in the north that covers the students from elementary schools, middle schools and universities. At the same time, the competition is also the largest Chinese language contest so far in the north of Thailand, attracting 1467 contestants selected from 10 universities and 60 secondary and primary schools.
The competition consists of six projects including speech, singing, cultural knowledge, calligraphy, dictation and displaying talent with five tiers. The participants include students from elementary and middle schools, and vocational colleges and language training centers in nine provinces including Songkhla, Trang, Pattani and Yala. 
Ma Fengchun, consul-general of the People's Republic of China to Songkhl, said that the language serves as a bridge connecting two cultures and enhancing friendship. This competition was not only held for celebrating the 44th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, but also carrying forward China-Thailand friendship and providing students and Chinese-lovers in the north of Thailand with a stage to showcase their Chinese. In the meantime, the competition will also raise their passion for Chinese as well as deepen their understanding of Chinese language and culture.
“Chinese language has become increasingly important nowadays. The event here offers a good opportunity for Chinese learners to communicate with each other. Meanwhile, it is hoped that the contestants could be inspired through this competition to improve their Chinese proficiency and have a better understanding of China.” said governor of Songkhla.
