The “Telling Shandong’s Story Well-A Trip of Press Officials and Journalists from Asian and European Countries in Shandong” event is held in Ji’nan to sample the history and culture of the spring city
In order to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and European and Asian countries in media, tell Shandong’s story well and broadcast Shandong’s voices, the “Telling Shandong’s Story Well-A Trip of Media Agency Representatives from European and Asian Countries in Shandong” group interview activities, sponsored by the China International Publishing Group and the Information Office of the Shandong Provincial Government, were unveiled in Ji’nan, capital city of East China's Shandong province on June 30th. The event invited press officials and journalists from Afghanistan, Palestine, Philippines, Lebanon, Turkey and Uzbekistan to offer them a platform to get closer to Shandong's traditional culture and latest achievements with a trip to the cities of Jinan, Zibo, Qingdao and Weifang in Shandong province.
In the morning of July 1st, a delegation of media agency representatives from European and Asian countries started a tour to Mingfucheng in Ji’nan to sample several hundred fresh water springs dotting the households of Jinan and know the history and culture of the spring city.
The Mingfucheng, which was firstly built during the Hongwu period of the Ming (1368-1644) with a long history of more than 600 years, is the core area of the spring city. The landscape of “spring and weeping willows in every household” unfolds as the spring is scattered across over 100 places, most of which are within household’s yards.
Foreign Journalists were fascinated by sugar-coated figurines and the craftsman's stunning technique at Baihuazhou Historical and Cultural Block in Ji’nan. Some of them also tried its making process personally.
Then they came to traditional culture experiencing space in Spring Book House to engage in the fine ancient craftsmanship and get some insight into the cultural changes of the Spring City through watching the spring-themed woodblock prints, visiting the experiencing space of six arts (ritual, music, archery, charioteering, calligraphy and arithmetic) and sampling the historical woodblock prints.
At the spring-drinking spot in Baihuazhou, the foreign friends also tasted sweet spring water. “It’s great!”, they said and gave thumb-ups to the spring water.
They also visited the Folk Museum of Spring Family with one yard and three houses where showcase more than one thousand previous photos, wares and documents with particular features and local customs during the period of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Republic of China (1912-1949) and the People’s Republic of China (1949-).
At the Baihuazhou workstation of traditional crafts, the foreign media group walked into Yangfeng’s workshop to have a better understanding of the Rabbit King’s history. The Rabbit King (a traditional toy in Ji’nan), as the most famous rabbit in Ji’nan, was worshiped with the image of the “Rabbit God” but was neglected in the aftermath. Nowadays, it has become a symbol of traditional culture with many elements of spring added.
“I think Ji’nan is a beautiful city. It is hoped that more people could visit this city and experience its charm” said Lina·Baalbaki, an editor-reporter of AI-Nidaa magazine in Lebanon.
