On January 22nd, 2019 Chinese New Year Concert kicked off in the City Hall of Vienna. Themed on time-honored Dunhuang music, this concert presented ancient music instruments and beautiful clothes in mural paintings at the Dunhuang Grottoes, as well as Chinese ethnic music.
During the concert, performers from the Ethnic Orchestra of Shanghai Conservatory of Music played many songs such as Silk Road and Alili with the duplicated ancient music instruments. In the midst of elegant Dunhuang music, foreign models dressed in the clothes depicted on the mural paintings appeared on the stage gently, which seems like a vivid life scroll at that time.
Many songs by singers like Liao Changyong, baritone singer and president of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Fangqiong won warm cheers and applause from audience. Nearly 600 guests from China and Australia, including Wang Qun, Chinese resident representative to the UN in Vienna and other international organizations, were present.
