Recently, a grand Chinese New Year celebration was held in Santiago, the capital of Chile, bringing Chinese traditional cultural performances, Chinese cuisine and other diverse activities to the local people, attracting tens of thousands of local people to participate.

In the afternoon, the Chinese New Year celebration, co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute of the Catholic University of Chile, the district government of Providencia, Santiago, and the Chinese Embassy in Chile, was officially launched at the Santiago Sculpture Park. On the center stage, Chinese specialties such as dragon and lion dance, Chinese Kung Fu, Dunhuang Flying Dance, and face-changing were performed one after another, drawing warm applause from the audience. The park has a capacity of over 100,000 people with long lines in front of almost every stall offering Chinese calligraphy, tea ceremony, paper cutting, food and other cultural experiences. After nightfall, dragon and lion dancers take to the streets in a parade that culminates the festival in an extremely joyful atmosphere.

Providencia District Mayor Matei said in an interview, the Chilean people are very interested in Chinese culture, this is the second time the district held the Spring Festival celebrations, although this year the venue is much larger than last year, but due to the enthusiasm of the people, the venue is still seemingly small, I hope that next year, the venue can be upgraded again to accommodate more people.

Local resident Gaspar Rojo, 28, has participated in the event for two consecutive years. He is a Chinese food enthusiast, but before attending this event, he didn't realize that the Chinese celebrate the Lunar New Year in such a special and interesting way. He told reporters, "My last name means red after translating into Chinese, which is an important color in Chinese culture, and I feel like I've all become more important."

Suzanne Briones, 54, is also attending the Chinese New Year celebration with her family for the second time. She told reporters, "I've been interested in Chinese culture since I was a child, and this kind of events provide opportunities for people to learn more about Chinese culture."
