I very much agree with and support the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by China. Only when civilizations enhance their mutual understanding can we find real and fundamental solutions tothe many problems that plague humankind.
Earlier this year, the Greek Cultural Foundation and the Chinese Embassy in Greece organized the "Tea for Harmony-Yaji" tea culture promotion, which, through a tea tasting salon, tea performances and photo exhibitions, showed the important role that tea has played in the life of the Chinese people since ancient times and the role of tea in the promotion of the interaction between Chinese and other civilizations.
Such cultural exchanges are very popular among the Greek public. The headquarters of the Greek Cultural Foundation is located in a quiet courtyard in the north of the city of Athens. Here, we have held many cultural exchanges with our Chinese partners, both to savor the tea culture and to share the splendor of Chinese paintings and other Chinese art. By participating and Holding these events, we have not only deepened our understanding of Chinese culture, but also felt the creativity of our Chinese partners and their sense of mission to inherit and develop the best of traditional Chinese culture.
As a teacher who has been teaching Greek and promoting Greek culture for more than 30 years, I am very much looking forward to contributing more to the Greek-Chinese cultural exchange.Since I started working at the Greek Cultural Foundation, I have gained a better understanding of cultural exchanges between the twocountries. In recent years, Chinese partners have actively participated in international book fairs organized by Greece, bringing many Chinese classics to help Greek people understand China's long history and profound humanistic concepts.
Various forms of cultural exchanges have helped the Greek and Chinese people to deepen their mutual understanding. A number of Greek friends who have been to Beijing to participate in the Book Fair have told me that the works of the Greek writer Kazantakis are very popular in China. Nikos Kazantakis, who visited China twice, saw peace, harmony and wisdom on Chinese people and became good friends with many Chinese writers. Kazantakis explores the commonalities between Greek and Chinese civilizations in his book Travel in China, which is a revelation for today's Greek-Chinese cultural exchanges and communications.
China and Greece share many common civilizational shimmers, and both advocate mutual respect and the pursuit of peaceful coexistence. The Chinese civilization focuses on the human being as the center of attention, and values inner cultivation and virtues.Ancient Greek philosophers also focused on the importance of knowledge and morality, emphasizing that "goodness is knowledge". Today, Greece and China are facing many similar challenges on their respective paths of development, and both countries can serve as models of mutual respect and win-win cooperation between countries with different cultural traditions. As economic exchanges between the two countries continue to deepen, they should also work together to strengthen cultural exchanges.
Both Greece and China have left wonderful chapters in their long history. Six Chinese universities already offer full-time undergraduate programs in Greek, and every year dozens of exchange students from China study at Greek universities. Two years ago, we opened an international program with Greek universities to study ancient Greek civilization, with half of the students coming from China. I am very touched by the importance that the young generation of China attaches to international contacts and their respect for the diversity of civilizations.
The exchange of civilizations and mutual understanding bring about the love and respect that the world needs most. I very much agree with and support the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by China. Only through deeper mutual understanding among civilizations can we find real and fundamental solutions to the many problems that plague humankind. As the interaction between Greece and China has demonstrated, the key to moving the world forward today is for different countries and civilizations to work together to maintain peace, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and insist on seeking common ground while reserving differences in order to promote the progress of civilization. The Greek Cultural Foundation will continue to work with its Chinese partners to promote cultural exchanges and deepen mutual understanding between the two sides, so that the wisdom of the two ancient civilizations of Greece and China can better light the future.
