On August 18, Vice Minister of Culture and Tourism Lu Yingchuan met with visiting Governor of Jeju Province of the ROK Oh Young-hun and his delegation in Beijing. They exchanged views on deepening China-ROK cultural exchanges and tourism cooperation.
Lu said China and the ROK are friendly neighbors and important partners to each other. In November 2022, President Xi Jinping and President Yoon Suk Yeol met in Bali and reached consensus on strengthening people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, further charting the course for the bilateral relations. In recent years, China and the ROK have taken the “China-ROK Cultural Exchange Year” as well as the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to jointly hold a series of cultural and people-to-people exchange activities, which have deepened the friendship between the two peoples and played a positive role in promoting the development of bilateral relations. Roh Young-cheon pointed out that Jeju’s rich natural and cultural heritage and convenient tourism services have always impressed Chinese tourists and therefore Jeju has become a popular tourist destination. Not long ago, China announced the resumption of outbound group tours to 78 countries including the ROK and “airline ticket + hotel” services for Chinese citizens provided by travel agencies and online tourism companies, which shows the importance China attaches to strengthening people-to-people exchanges and tourism cooperation with the ROK. Lu stressed that China is willing to work with the ROK to play an active role in promoting bilateral relations and advancing the vigorous cultural and tourism exchanges between the two countries.
Oh Young-hun said that there were close ties between Jeju and many places in China and our cooperation boasted broad prospects. Jeju was awarded the “Cultural Capital of East Asia” in 2016, and all walks of life in Jeju are looking forward to strengthening cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation with China. Jeju sincerely welcome Chinese tourists’ visits, and will continue to contribute to deepening the friendly exchanges and achieving mutual benefits between the two countries.
