On October 29th, The Opening Ceremony of the 3rd China-Korea Trade and Investment Expo and Jiangsu-Korea Entrepreneur Exchange Conference were held in Yancheng city of Jiangsu province. The theme of the conference was “smooth industrial circulation leads to open and win-win cooperation”. Thousands of government heads, guests, experts, scholars and businessmen gathered in Yancheng also known as “the eastern wetland and the pearl of the Yellow Sea”. Attendees participated in the event in autumn to plan for cooperative development. In the expo were 121 enterprises including automobile, photovoltaic industry, IT, smart manufacturing and other businesses. The expo centered about the most popular China-Korean regional cooperation. Exhibition, communication, negotiation, supporting projects and other forms were used to start communication and cooperation in multiple fields to promote the level of trade and investment cooperation and to create new increasing points of bilateral cooperation.

The world was experiencing intricate condition and the covid-19. Under such circumstance, the expo was held according to the schedule, which was significant for the regional economic recovery and development, was an indication of the the need to enhance China-Korean trade and economic cooperation and was a support for Yancheng to “step towards the future through opening-up and be an example of green transformation”.
Yancheng and ROK were separated by a sea. It’s a city with the closest cooperation with Korea and the highest concentration of Korea-funded enterprises. It’s especially obvious when China-Korea (Yancheng) industrial park was formally upgraded to China-Korea cooperative park. The cooperation in all aspects between Yancheng and Korea had been closer, attracting nearly a thousand of Korean-funded enterprises and more than 10 thousand to settle in Yancheng. Korean features could be seen in streets and alleys of Yancheng. The city had become “the second hometown” for a number of Korean people in the city.
China-Korea (Yancheng) industrial park was the only national platform to cooperate with the ROK in the Yangtze River delta. The park was based on national Yancheng economic and technological development zone. In this year, the Yancheng economic development zone was authorized to be the interconnected innovative development zone of the China (Jiangsu) Free Trade Zone, so it implemented the China-Korea FTA policy; learned and spread the experience of a free trade zone pilot and devoted to create a new cooperative highland for China-Korea high end industries, national demonstration zone for opening-up in all aspects and a pilot zone for China-Korea trade and investment cooperation.
“Jiangsu and ROK are countries facing each other across a sea. The two nations have a long history of friendship, frequent economic and trade exchanges and practical cooperation achievement. ROK have become Jiangsu’s forth largest trade partnership”, said Hui Jianlin, vice governor of Jiangsu province, on the opening ceremony. He expected that there would be enhanced innovative cooperation, strengthened industrial cooperation, expanded trade cooperation, improved green and low-carbon cooperation and people-to-people cooperation of a larger-scale.
Consul General of Korea in Shanghai said in his speech that besides trade, economy and investment, the two countries needed to participate in cooperation and opening-up and expand areas for cooperation, so as to get achievement of the friendship on the land of Yancheng.
Opportunities were created with opening-up and cooperation brought mutual benefit. A process in the opening ceremony was for Chinese and Korean entrepreneurs to exchange ideas. They discussed the topic of “enhancing the industrial chain cooperation between Jiangsu and ROK” to plan for the future jointly. 24 projects worth 89.3 billion were signed in the conference.
The expo had three exhibition zones, namely, China-Korea industrial park image and theme exhibition area, China-Korea trade exhibition zone and China-Korea investment zone. The expo covered an area of 30 thousand square meter with 105 booths and 121 enterprises. Compared with the former two expos, there’s improvement in the exhibition form, leading enterprises, industrial classification, supply and demand cooperation and cultural exchanges. This was the first time to hold the expo with online and offline methods, so online exhibition could be held anytime of a year.
The China-Korea Trade and Investment Expo had been held two times since 2019 with 50 thousand attendees, 167 industrial signed projects and a total investment value of more than 140 billion yuan, offering a high-level, multi-perspective and international dialogue mechanism and a cooperation platform for local Chinese government, local Korean government, commercial association and companies.
The expo lasted 5 days, during which were the 3rd Session of "Belt and Road" Business Association Round Table Conference (Yancheng) Summit, China-Korea-Japan New Energy Vehicle Innovative Development Forum, China High Quality Development Forum for Cross-border Trade Service, the Competition of New Energy Smart Vehicle and Transportation Ecology, promotion of the cooperation park as well as other supporting events, so as to improve the practical cooperation in key fields with key industries of Korea.
