“China-Nigeria Culture Week” started in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, at September 21st to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two nations and to develop the friendship and the mutual understanding of the people in the two countries.
Cui Jianchun, China’s ambassador to Nigeria, said at the opening ceremony that in the last 50 years the two countries had been cooperating, supporting each other and respecting and taking care of each others’ core interest and major concern. And abundant cooperative result had been achieved to benefit people in the two countries. China and Nigeria boosted long history and rich culture. A culture week held by both could improve the bilateral relationship and traditional friendship.
Nigeria’s general secretary of the Ministry of Information and culture said in his speech that the past 50 years witnessed the enhanced communication and cooperation between the two countries in art, music, dance, cultural governance and personnel training. The events of the culture week was an important achievement in the bilateral cultural cooperation, showing the close relation between the two countries and their people.
The culture week started on the same day with that of the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese festival. Guests tasted moon cakes to experience traditional Chinese culture. Guest also visited a cooperative achievement exhibition of the joint construction of the “belt and road” initiative between China and Nigeria and watched Nigeria’s traditional dance.
According to the introduction of China’s embassy in Nigeria, the events of the culture week lasted till 28th before which there would be a cultural picture exhibition of China and Nigeria, a competition of photography and short video, a Chinese calligraphy competition and a China-Nigeria movie week.
