In the evening of September 28th, 2020, at the invitation, Wang Yi, state councilor and foreign affairs minister, attended the reception to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Cuba.
Wang Yi said that in the last 60 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship, China and Cuba had been brothers overcoming same difficulties, friends with the same aspiration and partners of win-win cooperation. The two countries supported each other in the safeguard of sovereignty, independence and national dignity as well as of nation development and construction. We fought against the Covid-19 together and set examples to face global crisis. We shared the same beliefs to safeguard world peace and to promote the just cause of the development for mankind. China had became Cuba’s largest trade partner in goods. And Cuba had been China’s second trade partner in Caribbean area as well as an active practitioner of the “Belt and Road” initiative in the Latin America.
Wang Yi said that standing on a new historical starting point, China was willing to work with Cuba to implement important consensus reached by heads of the two countries; to deepen political mutual trust; to enhance expanse and depth of cooperation and to aim for new achievements of traditional friendship between China and Cuba, so as to benefit people in our countries. The international society, including China and Cuba, should safeguard international peace and justice; oppose power politics and external interference; protect and implement multilateralism; defend the international system with the UN as it’s core and contribute to the community for mankind with a shared future.
Bruno Rodriguez, Cuba’s foreign affairs minister, and Carlos Miguel Pereira, Cuba’s ambassador to China, delivered speeches to express their congratulation to the 60th anniversary. Cuba’s officials said that the close relationship between the two countries withstood the test of the time and the history. In the last 60 years, the two countries had coped with adversities together; deepened high-level exchanges, strategic cooperation and economic and trade exchanges as well as supported each other in multilateralism, making China-Cuba tie an example for the relationships between China and countries in Latin America and Caribbean Area. Cuba officials expressed their gratitude to China for the support and the help to fight against the pandemic. Two countries worked together to fight against the pandemic, showing the strength of socialist system to a high degree. Countries in a certain area now had great opportunities because the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative in Latin America and in Caribbean Area as well as the strengthening of the mechanism of China-Latin America cooperation forum. Cuba government followed one-China policy and strongly condemned actions to interfere with China’s internal affairs relating to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xizang Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. On the new starting point of the 60th anniversary, Cuba government was willing to work hand in hand with China to expand practical cooperation into other areas; uphold the banner high to oppose hegemony, unilateralism and protectionism; safeguard the authority of the UN; defend the international law and cooperate closely in international affairs, so as to bring China-Cuba tie to the next stage.
