On April 1st, a promotion activity of Guizhou’s culture and tourism was held by Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism in London. Through art performances, intangible cultural heritage exhibition and tourism promotion, United Kingdom (UK) residents recently had an opportunity to admire the colorful ethnic culture of natural scenery, environment-friendly development, as well as villages, clothes, dances and food in ethnic minority areas.
“Over the past few years, Guizhou has striven to go global through cultural and tourism promotions which not only help Guizhou earn its international fame but also inject strong impetus to Guizhou’s opening-up and development of culture and tourism. Guizhou, with abundant tourism resources and multicultural society, aims to encourage more UK residents to visit and understand itself through this promotion.” said Chen Wen, minister of the Embassy of China in the UK.
According to John McLean, head of China-UK Relations for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, China and UK witnessed a rapid development in economic and trade cooperation with a great potential for cooperation. The UK is expected to explore more collaborative opportunities in the future with China, while the exchanges in economy and trade serve as an effective way for two countries to remove obstacles and bring them closer.
During the promotion, artists from Guizhou performed traditional songs, as well as showed off instruments, and the manufacturing methods of intangible cultural heritages, receiving so much applause and popularity from audience. Zhang Haizhong in Miao’s costumes played the Lusheng (a traditional instrument); Miao’s female musician Ayouduo performed a traditional song as The Morning of MiaoLing Mountain; Wu Defen, Song Shuixian and Wu Chunxiu, inheritors of intangible cultural heritages from Guizhou, demonstrated the manufacturing methods of the hmong batik, silver ornaments and embroideries of the Miao ethnic group at the activity.
“People in the world have shown great interest to Chinese culture. China, therefore, is supposed to enhance cultural communication and inheritance so that the world will have a better understanding of China.” said Ayouduo who have visited many places in the world on behalf of Guizhou province to conduct exchanges.
“As a country featuring vast land, China has gained much popularity among foreigners because of its diverse cultures which are also an obstacle for them to learn and understand at the same time” said Sheryl, adding that China should strengthen and enrich cultural exchange so as to enable more foreigners to fall in love with Chinese culture and experience it personally.
