Watching cheongsam show, listening to cheongsam history, learning to make decorative Chinese button on cheongsam and trying on various cheongsam and other events belonged to an event called “Experiencing the Culture of Chinese Cheongsam” which was held on the Xiushui Street of Beijing. Participants included officials in foreign embassies in China, people in charge of international organizations’ offices in China, representatives of foreign chambers of commerce in China as well as foreign reporters, experts and students in Beijing.
At the start of the event, models walked the runway in cheongsam. Beautiful clothes and steps won applause from audience. Guests were eager to take out their phones to record this elegant cheongsam show. Later, the stuff member responsible for the following process introduced the origin, types and features, so foreign audience could remember cheongsam directly with stronger impression.
In experience section, guests tried to make Chinese buttons by themselves by using thin thread to make beautify flower patterns. They also tried on various cheongsam and stepped onto the runway. The interesting processes was conducive to the atmosphere. This was the first personal experience of the colorful cheongsam culture for most guests.
Many guests brought family members and friends to the event. An American madam held the Chinese button she made and said to the reporter, “This is interesting! In the past, I have only heard from cheongsam. I come with my daughter. She is very happy and is interested in Chinese buttons. I will take her to such events again if there are opportunities and help her to learn more about Chinese culture.”
The series of cultural experience events was popular among foreigners in Beijing. Since 2013, foreign guests had been invited to experience components of Chinese culture, including Beijing opera, Kun opera, martial arts, folk music, tea ceremony, kite, dance and delicacy of royal court feast. Foreign people welcomed and recognized the value of the event and many of them had became loyal “funs”.
