Chongqing, also named as the city of mountain and of fog, is the municipality under direct control of the Central Government of the People's Republic of China. It is a national central city in China, the economic and financial center, and the shipping, political, cultural, educational, scientific and technological center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. It is a comprehensive state transportation hub, inland processing base for exporting commodities, pilot city open to the outside world, a key modern manufacturing base, high-tech industrial base, the industrialization base of scientific research findings in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the demonstration area of ecological civilization, the demonstration area of developing circular economy in the central and western regions, part of the region in the grand western development program backed by the Chinese government and pilot city to implement coordinated urban-rural comprehensive reform policies, and the national historical and cultural city. It was once a provisional capital during wartime and the Far East anti-fascist command center. In 2011, the State Council approved the "Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone Regional Planning, positioning Chongqing as an international metropolis.

It has been stepping up efforts to accelerate the development of hi-tech industries such as information engineering, biotechnology and environmental protection technology. Fourth, an abundant pool of well-educated and skilled personnel. Chongqing has more than 1,000 scientific research institutions, 34 colleges and universities, and more than 600,000 scientific and technical personnels. Fifth, a huge market potential. Chongqing is a very populous city. Due to rapid economic growth, the people has lived a moderately prosperous life. The relocation of people owing to the construction of Three-Gorges Dam, large-scale infrastructure investment, environmental protection and pollution control, the upgraded old industrial bases, all these have created a huge demand of consumption and investment.
